I will not blame it on ignorance, you guys knew what you were saying and laughed accordingly. Its Sarlona. You probably aren't new, with that many toons floating about.

While you seem to be Chinese Bilingual, or Chinese-American/Austrailian/insert other country name here, you must realize that there are, often, issues on our server in particular with native Chinese players, who do not speak/type/understand English, until its suddenly time to roll on loot.

Do I condone people blatantly making fun of you like that? No, not at all. Wasn't there, but it is 99% likely that it was inappropriate.

Can I understand some fellow Sarlonians' frustration with having what I consider to be the most linguistically diverse server? (I can recall off the top of my head our fancy server having multiple Chinese, Italian, Brazilian, French, and Greek guilds. I'm sure there's other languages/nationalities I have missed.) I can understand frustration.

Example:

I spent 4 years on what I like to call "A paid working vacation, care of the United States Army" in Korea. I speak Korean... sort of. I don't pretend to be the best at it, but at I did go to school for it.

While there, I often encountered intercultural... lets call them "snags". These snags would often happen on post, or in the area right around post, affectionately known as the "Ville" or something similar.

On Post, these snags would happen because there would be a Korean national working a Department of Defense/AAFES job of some sort that did not speak English. They might manage a few small phrases, but would not be considered to have a working vocabulary in the language of their customer base. This was normally due to nepotism, and one well-educated Korean national would bring in his brother, friends, nephew, etc. Who did not meet the same qualifications he did, after he managed to make a managerial position.

Off Post, this happened because American soldiers expected things to happy the same way in Korea as they did in America. So, some soldiers, young and old, being ignorant. Not stupid.. just ignorant. Note the difference.

So there's my trip down memory lane. I think the point here is, sometimes we're all jerks. Brush it off, and considering how large of a player base we seem to have getting to high levels, take comfort in the fact that you'll likely not run with any of them ever again.

wow i refuse to blacklist you. I have already talked to the people in that group who I consider as decent enough people to warrant me talking to them about it. The guy who started this(and I won't name them here, but i'll gladly tell you via pm's who the ******bag is) is not worth the effort to even bother explaining why this was offensive on so many levels. (he even tried to spend a good 5 min explaining to me how racist comments like this was ok)

No. the guy was not ignorant. He took the time and effort to 'translate' what he said to teh rest of us, and tried to explain how this was funny because 'she did not speak english' (Even though Xia was typing in party chat after she relogged, and before she logged. She even typed out 'Lagging very badly, restarting real quick, brb'

I am well known among my friends ( I dont want to say Real Life friends .. so my older before i was playing DDOfriends) for being incredibly anti racist to quite an extreme ( it just pushes the wrong button in me and i see red )

Sometimes do have problems translating what to do or not to do but overall, its never acceptable to tease of any nature. Your talking about a game that has girl characters with men players and the color I'm sure doesn't match to reality (mine dosen't, being a purple tree would be interesting though). Its strange language is picked on, yark....

So don't let one or two bad apples ruin the basket. Over all it very rare I would see this on a upper level quest and sad it happened.

OP, please do not think every Non-Chinese is this way. There are a lot of Americans/English/Aussies, etc, who have studied and love the Chinese language and culture, including myself.

Whoever did this is an absolute ***hat who really missed the mark on being funny. There seems to be no doubt among those in the run that this incident occurred... for that, I hope the offender's name does get out and that he is the one blacklisted.

I was in that vod today with my girl cassie. I was totally confused as to why he did that, and his crack about well rosanne said it that way. showed no class. racist commentary is hurtful and painul. i heard from others in the past that this is just a game and all that ****. heres the problem i have with that...game or no...words hurt. PERIOD. we all have the same feelings and they can be hurt. he was right for leaving. I dont blame him. I was an officer in a chinese guild. those guys are great. all of them. thanks for the thread and justice to you brother. glad people are banning together against this idiot. hopefully we will see more of this brotherhood amongst players.

this is quite typical of your poor behavior lately atma. who knows why you became so abusive to cassie and me. she has known you longer then I have, and she sees it too. we both know whether you want to admit it or not why that raid went bad. you dont tank sully on hard with a rogue and instruct the healer to throw mass cure light because the rogue tank-you- have super uber healing amp while the rest of the party lacks in healing. you even got on cassie for throwing mass heals on the party saying she was overhealing. i guess mass heal over mass cure light is over healing...? but dude...go ahead and smear me with your ****. im just amazed your actually going to bundle up this incident with your angst against me and cassie. whatever brother. you got issues you need help on. that being said, you dont hold a monopoly on this thread. you obviously didnt hear me get behind her and make comments like "i dont understand why that was funny because her race dont have anything to do with jack", but again thats typical of your behavior lately. if i voice in here that i stand behind someone not being abused, thats my call and im sure its welcomed, it sure as hell not your call with your abusive attitude of late. now go ahead and get the last word in because i have nothing else to offer this thread but my backing that abusiveness and racism isnt tolerable.

I will only post on here once and you all can think of me as you choose.

There were two separate things co-occuring within the VoD group at the time. The OP was racially abused through voice chat (neither me nor the party lead caught the name or he would have never been in the reform). The abusive is something that the party lead (my mister) responded to in chat asking why anyone would talk like that, and that it was uncalled for. I myself did not respond, as I was concentrating on my healing role (as anyone who knows me will know) and in real life stresses (I live in Christchurch, New Zealand and was staying at my brothers with no water, my own house having no power nor water - although I know this is besides the point).

From the healing perspective, if we must go there, my alts are Cassiekat and Lainith and some of you on Sarlona will know that I take pride in my healing abilities, with almost all of my toons being healers in some way, shape, or form. In this particular raid we joined because a friend was leading it, and was surprised to find it being run with a rouge tank. That wasn't a problem, and I was looking forward to the challenge. The raid itself was going alright aside from badly timed curses on the tank (really could have used a toon spamming remove curse on him but that is a moot point at this juncture). I was asked to throw CLW mass due to the tanks healing amp, but chose not to, as when I did initially I noticed that the party was taking too much damage and dying. I could have used maximised and empowered CLW but that is a higher SP cost than mass heal so ineffective. So, I stuck to using mass heals, which kept the party alive but overhealed our tank to a ridecolus amount.

The OP needed to relog due to lag and I was able to keep the party alive with no issues during that time, although I was almost out of sp by the time she got back. Soon after I was getting frustrated as the OP was throwing CLW as requested by the tank, causing little dip in her sp bar, while I was having to search out my pots, having noted if I switched to CLW or stopped throwing mass heals the party began dying. I expressed frustration verbally to the party lead, as I tend to voice my frustrations to him while I heal (we are as most are aware, quite close), and he in turn expressed that to party. He is my love, and is defensive. Neither of us could see that the OP was doing much in the way of healing, and certainly if I stopped my mass heals the party began to die.

At this time someone responded to what the party leader said with a racist comment directed at the OP. I didn't respond in party at all, as I can't talk in party easily while healing full out, but I did respond to the party lead about it (we use non push-to-talk voice chat) and he responded for both of us to party with shock and distaste about the racist remarks.

The racism the OP received was entirely unjustified for the situation, and the healing problems were a result of simple miscommunication, which I admit my role in, as I was unable to directly voice why I was using mass healing. As a previous poster noted, the party that formed after did contain the racist player, but this was because neither me or the party leader was aware of the fact.

I take pride in my healing and to the OP directly I apologise for the miscommunication between us, and that I could not voice my choices in healing at the time. To the tank, I felt my choices in healing for the situation was justified and the party leader was defending my choice.

Please take these two events as separate as neither me nor Solo condone racism in any way shape or form.

I think you made the right choice based on your situation.

Healing a pug VoD can be pretty tricky, especially as you have to quickly
asses the appropriate healing option to accommodate the group.


The only problem I can think of is that there was not clear leadership and coordination with the other healer.

It sounds like since you were using mass heal, so FvS did one of a few things:

1 - Nothing, just piking (highly unlikely)
2 - Chose to spot heal so as to not overlap with the massive healing output of Mass Heal and therefore not waste sp with duplicated and unnecessary effort.



Better communication might have allowed the FvS to take over on mass cures
when you ran dry on sp, switching to bursts as needed. It can be hard to trust
another person to heal (especially in a pug), so your choice is understandable.


Overall this whole event sounds like a massive cluster of egos (racism, healing choice based on one persons amp)
and miscommunication that could have been avoided or at least mitigated by a little more coordination.
