Default New Zealand DDO player thank overseas Earthquake support

    Hi all.

DDO is international. I pug with players from many different nations most weeks.
Many countries have sent USAR (urban search and rescue) teams to New Zealand to help us Kiwis here post earthquake.

Presently 78 deaths confirmed, 168 with serious-critical injuries, estimated over 300 people still unaccounted for.
80% homes in largest city in South Island without water. 40% homes without electricity.

As in the world of Tolkin, the men of Gondor lit the signal fires requesting aid from their neighbours (Riders of Rohan). In the Real World here in New Zealand - we have also sent set the signal fires - and nations have answered!

    Sincere Tx

    Default Update

Approx 90 members from LA Fire dept (spec USAR) arrived here in New Zealand with several tons of spec equipment last night from the USA.

Official death toll is now 113 (but may well reach 300). Nearly 1000 total USAR personal from 7 countries now all working here to help rescue and recover people.

    75% power restored.

National state of emergency remains in place.

I am sorry, but despite the fact that this is a major disaster and it is quite right to think about what has happened at this time, why is this in the Dwarf Forum, shouldn't this be in the Off-Topic Forum

    Default Fair point.

    Fair point both.

I only play dwarfs and belong to a dwarf guild. Other than that absolutely no relevance to this site at all.

Needless to say I'm not expecting too many more posts on this OP.

    Hope that is ok.

In the disaster zone myself, I was lucky enough to still have power and water after the 6.3 on Tuesday. There's just no words to describe what earthquakes feel like and the destruction they can cause.

Take the word from a local, all the help that has been offered from around the world has been greatly appreciated. Us Kiwis are a hardened bunch of people, we're a small country with the total population being equal to a large city in the USA, but we do some amazing things. This disaster will always be in our memory but we will move on and take it in our pride, that an earthquake will only hinder the Kiwi Spirit.

    Default Well said!

    Well said Bigrtt!
It may even make us Kiwi Dwarfs even more agressive and determined to play DDO well and support an International game with the same enthusiasm we summon to make movies about hobbits and dig people out of rubble.
