Default First pass of an Elven AA Bard Trapmonkey

This is my first attempt at using the Character Gen tool and am looking to create a good (decent) support build to run with a friend who is tired of the support and healing roles of her previous characters and wants to try the chaos of frontline melee. My idea was to provide buffs as well as wand/scroll mastery through the Bard class (Warchanter), multiclass with Rogue to disable traps, splash in some Arcane Archer (with Manyshot!) as I stand in the background, and still be able to do some passingly fair melee when needed. In a proper group situation I'm hoping to be able to fit in and contribute to the success of the party. I do realize that I am lacking in metamagic feats and limited in the healing aspect that many look for in a "support" bard - possibly even gimped by trying to do too much. Hoping for some constructive criticism and/or advice in order to tweak the build before beginning the new character. Attributes, skills, and enhancements are still variable at this stage and not final... if anyone sees anything horribly wrong please let me know.

    looks good
i wounder though will you use twf or just a one hander not having itwf and gtwf.
and 10 int and 10 cha looks lowish but i guess its not to bad

just as an option i would consider going virt this would free up a feat and if you you could cut one more you could take itwf and gtwf mebey pa or mebey exstend (double heresy!)

i don't know if this would drop or increase overall personal dps while in meele and it will drop ranged dps and party dps
also ap could be hard to get the pre for virt.
(i am just a big virt fan )

The missing IPS and PS will hurt your ranged DPS.

THF without a feat is ok, but if you want to go TWF, I'd take the full line.
In fact, I would not try to squeeze in more melee feats when essential ranged feats are missing.

The skill points can be optimized, e.g. if you go rogue - bard - ranger -bard on the first four levels, spending points in UMD on bard and rogue levels, and points in search on ranger and rogue levels, you might be able to squeeze out some more ranks.

You're missing Imp Crit Ranged, Prec Shot, and Imp Prec Shot; that will hurt your ranged DPS. If you want to add IPS, you need base DEX 19; starting 17 and taking a +2 DEX tome is how I'd go about it. If you DON'T take those feats, then consider going half-elf instead and being more melee-focused.

Have a look at the Bardcher build in my sig for comparison; specifically the second one in the thread, which is also rogue 2 / rgr 2 / bard 16.

Thanks for the feedback guys, it's been helpful. The suggestion for going Virt seems reasonable and would help free up a couple of feats to improve the 2wf or AA lines but not both either way I look at it, and I was kind of set on the Warchanter PrE in order to maximize party benefits -- too bad WF-Ranged doesn't count towards WC! I think I'm simply trying to do too much at one time with this build and am thinking of dropping the elfAA bit altogether and going human with a fighter splash (extra feats) in place of ranger since, unfortunately, H-elf isn't an option at this time.

I play smth similar, but stucked at lv 8 (bard 5/ranger 1/ rog 2 before manyshot).

    Some ideas:
    1. Nasty multiclassic skill manegment - while MC always take limited skills on splashed levels, this way you will have more SP total. For example:
Rangers levels are good to take Spot and Search.
Rogue should be full DD or some LP.
    Bard: everything else.

Also diplomacy is nice for spare Skill points, becouse for many reason we do not want to have agro.

That means that at some levels you will have some essencial skills behind (like DD) you can offset this using: Heroism, Skill boost, Fox wand, singing, itemz, also AP (retrain leatter)

    My leveling order is:
    1 Rogue
    2-4 Bard
    5 Ranger
    6-7 Bard
    8 Rogue
    9 Ranger
    10+ bard

Also i would start with Str 16/Dex 16 and +2 point to either cha or int, or add this to Dex for easier manyshot/IPS.

    2. Eggs in basket, imo putting archery/traps/2WF/buffing in one char is just too much.
I would advice to drop 2WF and concentrate on archery and bard utylity, having some good 2H on hotbar.
Also going Virtuoso would make things easier, there is just no synergy between WC and EAA. Also skipping WC allows to take MS at lv9, which saves some frustracion.

Feats to think about: PS and IPS, since it allows to hit two (or more) enemies at once.
IC & Extend are both cool.

If you are not sticked to AA, but actually like Rogue Bard more, you can consider just melee with figher levels instead of Ranger.
    Some more ideas:
    3rog/1F/Bard 16 is also sexy.
Dwarf could be nice melee bards.

    2. Personal Experience
As i said i played AA Rogue Bard, but stuck at level 8, it all goes fine to level 6 but then the gimpness was just overhealming. Probably since gear scale change, and late PrE (or its not a toon but player). Im still wishing to get my toon to lv20, and such character has its moments of awesomness (wildnest hunting, or soloing SYndicate chain) but just need to rest to do so. ;-)

After much thought and further reading about the Virtuoso PrE I've decided to drop Warchanter in order to keep the Elven AA line and not worry about 2WF. unbongwah's 2rogue/2ranger/16bard build will be closer to what I'm aiming towards now with slightly different feat/class order, skill, and enhancement selection for personal flavor.

Thinking I'll most likely be swinging a Falchion (with elf atk/damage enhancements) when the bow or lutar isn't in hand since the 2HF feats aren't quite as 'required' to the extent the 2WF feats are. Considering that this character will be secondary, most likely tertiary, melee capable I'd rather not gimp the AA aspect just be able to swing 2 swords a little better.

Will probably post the final build back here sometime for further critique as well as marking and showing the evolution of the idea for some sort of helpful future reference. Thanks for the feedback - everybody that posted gave me something to consider.

And you will be just fine with that.
Just keep a nice set of weapons for otherwise Crit-Immune Mobs, most notably Smiting, Disruption and Banishing. If you don't have the room for IC: Slash, a Keen Smiter/Banisher might just be your thing.

Yes, but it's rather hard* to craft attributes such as Smiting or Banishing on GS weapons, especially on a MinII.

But you are right, one of the most important Melee weapons will not benefit from IC: Slash at all, so this feat is not exactly needed. Still, one will have to adapt his or her weaponry to the omission of that feat.

Gonna roll this up tonight and see how it goes for a few levels. All previous characters have been frontline melee (Fighter, Paladin) or solo-self-sufficient (Ranger), as well as pure, so being in a multiclassed support role will be new for me, but sounds like fun. I imagine that a Tome or two not planned for will make their way into the build at some point - already thinking needs moar cowbell...
