Bad enough to be in a combat zone, without having to worry about friendly...... fire.

Anyone with small kids can relate to the literal thinking stuff. It's kind of funny when it happens with adults though

It sort of flows from learning without knowing, and not following up in your mind the reasons why something is taught.

After hearing 'never put water on a grease fire' about a million times, and never once being taught or even considering the why of it, the guy did what he was taught. He probably went for the water, remembered what he had learned, put the water down and grabbed the bleach...which is not water, right?

I have a friend who travels to Mexico a few times a year. Every time he brings with him a large container of ice tea mix. Why? Because everyone says to not drink the water. And he doesn't. He adds ice tea mix to it, and then drinks the ice tea. The only good thing about that is when he gets sick (about half the time), I get to use a DDO term with him. I tell him that he can take the meds his doctor gave him but they won't help in the long term because the doc can't heal stupid.

Oh, and it's my understanding that civilians working for the Department of Defense overseas have to follow many of the same rules as the military does. I believe most sign something saying they will obey the rules.

The difference is the consequences of not following the rules are less severe. I doubt a civilian can actuallly go to jail or be otherwise criminally prosecuted for anything that would not be considered criminal either in the states or the host country.

However, they certainly can be fired and shiped hastily back to the U.S.
    And many have been.

I'm sure some of you can relate...

    BRITISH OFFICER FITNESS REPORT

The British Military writes officer fitness reports. The form used for Royal Navy and Marines fitness reports is the S206. The following are actual excerpts taken from people's "206's"....

    * His men would follow him anywhere, but only out of curiosity.

    * I would not breed from this Officer.

    * This Officer is really not so much of a has-been, but more of a definitely won't-be.

    * When she opens her mouth, it seems that this is only to change whichever foot was previously in there.

    * He has carried out each and every one of his duties to his entire satisfaction.

    * He would be out of his depth in a car park puddle.

    * Technically sound, but socially impossible.

    * This Officer reminds me very much of a gyroscope - always spinning around at a frantic pace, but not really going anywhere.

    * This young lady has delusions of adequacy.

    * When he joined my ship, this Officer was something of a granny; since then he has aged considerably.

    * This Medical Officer has used my ship to carry his genitals from port to port, and my officers to carry him from bar to bar.

    * Since my last report he has reached rock bottom, and has started to dig.

    * She sets low personal standards and then consistently fails to achieve them.

    * He has the wisdom of youth, and the energy of old age.

    * This Officer should go far - and the sooner he starts, the better.

    * In my opinion this pilot should not be authorized to fly below 250 feet.

    * This man is depriving a village somewhere of an idiot.

    * The only ship I would recommend this man for is citizenship.

    * Works well when under constant supervision and cornered like a rat in a trap.
    OMG!

I am SO glad I was not drinking my coffee when I read this!

    Funny stuff!
