Default game loads and never gets to server

    Hello,

I just downloaded the latest version of the free game standard of DDO. I put it on 2 laptops. 1 laptop running winxp had no problem getting to the servers and running the game. The win7 computer loaded the game, loaded the character on the server, but then just stayed in the loading screen before reaching the town/dungeon.

What is happening and how can I fix this?

    Default exact same problem

I have this exact issue. I reloaded the allowed programs in the windows firewall but still nothing. I am truly getting sick of dealing with windows based systems and gaming. Why cant we have mac versions for these games. Mac operating system never has these issues. Every time there is a new windows release, I spend hours in the forums trying to get my games to work.....its just dumb.

    Please open the Knowledgebase portal:

Which will then allow you to view this article about windows 7 firewall settings:

(if it is the default windows security software you use)

    Default i figured it out

I read the top of the topic and decided to change from direct X 10 to direct X 9 and it solved my issue. So for me it wasn't about a firewall.

However, regarding the firewall in Windows 7, while the game is loading, the firewall pops up with a question as to whether or not to block the DDO program. It comes really quick if you're not looking for it. So I did alt-tab to switch screens and got the prompt and allowed DDO to run.

    Hope these things help ramstak

    Default directx 9

I went to the directx 9 download page you linked, but it says I already have a newer version and dont need 9. Did you unnistal your old directx and load 9? I have directx 11 right now.

    Default direct x 9

What i did was when I loaded up DDO and got to my character, I selected options. There was a drop down to use directX 10 or 9. I selected 9 and then I was able to restart the game and load all the way to the server and play the game.

    Hi,
Got a related issue: I'm using Windows 7 64bits, but my problem is that I can't change the DX setting in Options. It's stuck on DX9, and greyed out, although dxdiag shows DX10 capacity, and I can run all other games with DX10 enabled without a hitch. I even updated my GC driver, still to no avail. Any idea on what is blocking DDO from detecting that I can use DX10 (even if the known issue forces me afterwards to go back to DX9)?

    ============

No matter, found the solution myself: I just had to set the ddoclient exe file in Vista SP2 compatibility mode, and DX10 became available (didn't see any issue as mentioned, though).

I had the exact same problem and had tried the defender firewall and the virus software firewall fixes as well as the re-install and had the same issue here as well. I was really getting ticked off about this, your suggestion of choosing directx 9 fixed my issue right away and I can now finally play the game! Thanks for your post!

    Cheers!
