You are responsible for your own DDO experience.
As I said, to get the good content you usually need to shell out some cash. If you want to go out to some of the open areas and grind to make your own bow and arrow and then grind hunting for food, and so on, you can do without spending money, but that's too much work for most. Its easier to just grind 'cash' (as the in game money is called) and use it for what you want. On the plus side, the older players are supportive -- for the years where your toon is still a child, and learning the game, you can generally get at least one older player to sponsor you and take care of many/most of your purchases with their cash rather then having to grind your own.
Actually it is.
We're just passing around promisory notes about our suspended belief of non-existent money. We have little paper notes and metal coins, but considering there would need to be a recovery of $38 trillion before money is worth something, we're just living in a giant theocracy where money has replaced God
You should ask your landlord if he actually has a physical representation of the money you pass him or from the other people he rents out to other than a bank statement that says he has $X,XXX amount in his account.
Those are my principles, and if you don't like them... well, I have others. (G. Marx)
