    Default selfpatch.dll

    HI THERE
I recently bought a new laptop and installed ddo from the original disk, it went through the update, then when it tries to launch I keep getting "invalid access to memory location" selfpatch.dll. I have searched through the forums and found a few posts similar but none of the fixes recommended work. I have re-installed DDO 4 times with all firewalls, antivirus off and am fed up.I would really like it if someone has an idea so I can get back to gaming on the new computer that I bought for that purpose .
    Thanks

The original DVD is 5 years old.

The patching process has changed several times and using original is not recommended - plus you will be downloading pretty much the entire game anyway.

Please remove all installs and use the update 8 client which can be downloaded from here:

The error "invalid access to memory location" seems to be file "in use" based hence the cannot overwrite message you got when trying the repatch steps (which are for a slightly different error) there's a KB article detailing what to do in the event of the "invalid access" variation of the message here I had put up today.

That other version of the error is if it was not downloaded/corrupted when downloading as part of a patch stage hence the repatching steps.

Edit: both do appear to be due to installing/reinstalling via DVD I believe which as Smitey pointed out were released so long ago (2006!) that they are pre any kind of compatibility updates put into patch so when it does patch you can run into this issue. The best bets to use a pre-updated install.
