Default How much does the speed diff among THF weapons affect DPS.

Brought this up in a another thread, so I think I'll post here to prevent derailment. As many people know, there has been a long-standing bug that affects Greataxe speed (and IIRC Maul attack speed as well). While this increases DPS, I haven't personally seen a major speed and DPS increase on it vs. other THF weapons, and I'd like to see a breakdown of just how much this extra attack speed positively affects DPS, to determine if the difference is significant enough to vastly outclass other options.

thats an "i remember when this were all fields" feature, long since been bulldozed over and replaced with equal speed for all. i believe that was corrected when they did the first pass of trying to even TWF up a bit (before they moved to the new % TWF chance thingy we have now).

these days THF DPS is calculated on the crit profile for a given STR. i think the falchion comes out top with a geared up end game STR score. that excludes special named items of course.

Unhasted all styles were basically equalized.

The thing is, once you apply some attack speed increase like haste, how much of a benefit they actually give in game highly depends on the animation delays.

Greataxes simply have a shorter more optimized swing animation.

I'd be willing to bet half orcs speical animation also results in some difference.

It's all pretty small, but enough to make the difference giving that DnD rules did equalize the weapons overall DPS regarding base + crit profile averages.

And I can't really say it's so much a bug, but rather just something that's beyond Turbines ability to balance. I mean they tried many times in the past but still haven't got the animations equalized, as it's a very complex thing to do it.

Anyways, read Vanshilars thread if you wanna see some exact figures:
    http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=275144

But keep in mind for measuring such a small difference, even things like your computer speed and internet connection can change the results.

The most obvious way to see the difference is with a fighter using haste boost IV + haste spell + twitch attack tho.. Feels insanely fast with a greataxe, and a bit sluggish with a sword.

The only easy way would be to make greatswords swing like axes, but then they would look really wrong.

Hm, alright then. Probably not significant enough for me to care especially, then. Still a nice thing to throw in the face of people who hate on my Maul-user, though.
