Default Can someone explain the red-named bosses ???

I mean seriously -- what is the point of attacking the red-named spawns during treasure map pieces grinding ? All you get in return is a loss of hit points, and the occasional death, and a few extra doubloons far more easily and quickly obtained by just skipping these mobs entirely.

They look like a design failure ATM, sorry...

From what I could tell, the red-named had better chances of dropping the named maps (the ones that lead to treasure chests), and also seemed to have chances of dropping the stolen gems. None of them were that hard with a full group, but I certainly wouldn't want to take on one solo.

Accualy they are easy to solo because they easy loose track to if you get on some rock. After they loose track they start trowing daggers that deal about 10 dmg (less than lv 20 minutaurs).
I soled 2 on my Arcane archer (+1 i duoed with one monk). They have nasty AC.
Yes crystals droped (2 diamonds, and 6 emeralds) but I hear in crystal cove is easier to obtain them.

I think they also have a better chance of dropping Treasure Compass

It's probably also worth mentioning that the Red-named in the crystal cove also have chances of dropping torches as well as requisition forms. Plus they seem to drop many more stolen gems than the trash mobs.

I had an encounter with two red named mobs at one time. Was going to run since I was on my healing cleric and not my fighting cleric but decided to"what the hell" took them down with very little effort and a few heals on myself. Nothing special dropped from either of them.
