Default Why is it so foggy on Smuggler's Rest?

I think Smuggler's Rest looks fine, but why is it so foggy? Even with draw distance and landscape distance turned all the way up, I could barely see past 20 yards before everything was engulfed in fog.

I imagine this might be a performance thing, and a way of obscuring monsters spawning off in the distance. But is there any way the fog could be lifted just slightly?

If that's the dev's reasoning behind the fog, I will be wholly impressed.

OK everyone! We have developer confirmation! Throwing Obscuring Mist, Cloudkill, and Solid Fog on Harry in the Shroud will be 100,000x more effective than dungeon alert!
Things worthy of Standing Stone going EXTREME PREJUDICE™ on.:
    • Epic and Legendary Mysterious ring upgrades, please.
    • Change the stack size of filigree in the shared bank to 50. The 5 stack makes the shared bank worthless for storing filigree in a human usable manner.
    • Fixing why I don't connect to the chat server for 5 minutes when I log into a game world.
    • Fixing the wonky Lightning Sphere and Tactical Det firing by converting them to use alchemist spell arcing.
    • Redoing the drop rates of tomes in generic and raid loot tables.

The fog helps the smuggling effort I assume.

Really? I had performance decreases while running around Smuggler's Rest with ze fog, but when I was in Crystal Cove, everything was just peachy, and my computer should be stomping DDO in terms of performance, but thanks to memory leaks that still persist, it doesn't.

Turbine, you can hire more developers for the game. We operate on a giant Theocracy of Debt, so go all out finding developers for the best MMO out there

AKA: Gives a reason for why the object draw distance is so short.

    I think it works well.

If you don't have an SSD, you should be using DDOPreload (fixes the slow first login issue)
