Thread: Epic GH

  1. #1

    Default Epic GH

    Dear Devs,

With Update 8, patch 1; would it be possible to turn on Epic Gianthold, at least TOR and um the Reaver.

The lack of new content, especially at the high end, is really hurting the attention spans of those who have been around a while. As Epic TOR was available after a recent Update we know that it is available and could essential be turned on with a flick of a switch. So with at least the TOR available on EPIC (on a toggle) it would be really nice to have it turned on giving the bored players something to do.

I realize that not everyone runs Epic and this really doesn't help non-capped toons, but it would be better than nothing.

Thanks for your consideration in the matter.

I'm sick of 4+ years old content rehashed as epic. I rather them work on new content than spend any time balancing and tweaking GH for epic difficulty.

I'd love to see it epic, in fact it was the first thing I checked on 8.1 lama.

I think we will have to wait for the epic reboot before they release any more epics which is sad.

Good news is I'm sure the new tech where you pick your level range/difficultly scaling thing is how the epic reboot is going to work at least in part. And seeing it getting a test run in the event means we are that much closer to the epic reboot.

I just hope epic isn't too dumbed down and I'm a little afraid that the scaling will be bonked if that don't tune each quest by itself and not just have some algorithm to scale mobs hp,saves, and immunities.

i gotta vote for what he said, new content not old rehashed content..

why not make epic a real epic thing and make a dungeon or two that are only available on epic, built for epic, made for epic, and just real cool epic stuff...

I want to clarify that IMHO most people, myself included, would love/prefer/rather have new content over rebuit epics, but alas it is not coming with Patch 1.
We don't know when U9 is coming (jokingly if ever since Turbine and the number 9 have such problems)

However we do know that Epic Tor at least is available on a toggle (cause it was turned on at one point) that at least would give a number of people something to do on thier high end characters.

If they just gave us teh Tor and the option for Epic Dragonplate, how many runs would people do for collecting the 20 to 25 Epic scales to upgrade thier armor? I am guessing the answer would be many, at least for the Epic people.

I'm not a big fan of the epic quests myself. I love the loot that comes out of them, but I find the overall mechanics to be boring and oppressive. Either it becomes a stun-fest, or everyone is running invisible.

I can't imagine an epic Gianthold would be any different.

I vote for both - epic Gianthold AND new epic-only content!

They already did balance and tweak Epic GH years ago. Literally years ago. THen they shut it off.

I do remember that incident. And my guess is that just because a quest can be "toggled" to epic does not mean that the quest can be "epic ready" because I remember too, about the same time, people reporting epic was available for water works (or some other lowbie quest). Toggle diff window doesn't imply that it doesn't require a lot of work to tweak and balance any given quest.

Possible reason they removed Epic GH, cost.

Even if they developed it and tweaked it and its literally sitting there not turned on it makes no sense financially to do so. Why? Giant hold is currently the most expensive and second most purchased pack in the game. To release it would cause its price to RISE reducing its sales and not gaining much value off current players (As the majority already OWN the pack)

Simply put, its not worth it to epic the quests and it is unlikely to ever be epic. That said, epic madstone seems very fun and epic crucible seems painful. I would like to see it but we probably never will.

epic tor would be kidna unforgivable -> quest end after gate keeper and this turn on the timer if you wipe at dragons then it is still 1 day till you can run it again.
Epic giants gona be heavy (not possible to hold (only pertify - single target, with higher chance of failure (Fort saves are generally higher))) + 2 purpure named bosses fight I don't think it is possible with current epic mechanics without realy heavy investment into SP potions (how it look curently, 4 or 5 guys beating single boss for like 5 minutes - beating white dragon while disspeled in ice aura, under storm of comet falls (usually 3 comets in a row)).
That will result with even less groups than Desert epics (excluding DQ2).

Well as a cleric. I'd love to see some Epic Gauntlets of Eternity, with a true superior healing lore. That being said, the thought of running epic crucible gives me the willies.

A couple thoughts, they can't "get rid of" epic difficulty setting entirely... They may need to make it into a "hard core" mode... but they can't simply drop it; too much howling from people who are one piece away from making their epic item that they slaved away at getting. So that said it seems to me even with a "reboot" -- and we don't yet know what that's going to be (and it seems likely the Devs don't even have that direction set in stone yet) -- but even with a reboot they are still going to have the epic mode setting available under a different name, so why not keep expanding epic mode as a "hard core mode". By all accounts GH was being worked on... why waste all that effort release it as "hard core" GH and change the name of all the current epic modes to the same... Meanwhile they can keep spitballing what "epic" really should be...

I'm hoping for dedicated "epic" story arcs with epic levels...

    Battle the Truthful one
Banish the Devourer (AKA Cthulhu) from Eberron
Take out a "I live, again" Ascended Abbot, turns out he wasn't killed permanently in the accension chamber, you were part of his plan all along and "killing him" was the final step from lich to deity-hood, the sarcophagi were actually obstructing his accession (hahah you fools!
Take on the Tarasque, to save the world from being ravaged.

Put these story arcs and epic levels in their own area, once you go level 21 you can only TR back to the level 1-20 area, so we keep the economy and epic items from mixing. And make each story arc a path (branching path with multiple endings) that locks out the other story arcs... You can do the other story arcs when you finish the first...

I think your both nuts.... while i hate epics ... it has absolutely nothing to do with the content it has everything to do with the grind. Epics arent for everyone ... but if you ask me there should never be an update without something new getting made epic.

They need to do epic harbor .. they need to do epic thernal ... epic deleras tomb .. epic catacombs ... epic Gianthold .. epic sharn syndicate... Epic house quests.

They also need to change the rules for epic ... making it something that TRs can do for exp maybe changing the rules to be lvl 20 normal character lvl 18 TRs and boost the exp by 100% from what elite was while leaving the items at min lvl 20.

But one thing i do agree with is that EPICS should have no timer unless they are raids. Raids have timers to prevent you from getting raid items too easy .. so they make sense. But you could run 100 tide that turns and never see the stupid shard seal or scroll you need. So unless they start adding a 20th epic runs conter where you have options for any of the seals shards or scrolls from that series every 20th run or something then they should remove epic timers all together.

While i am not against epic content that is made with no lower level counter part. I think they need to hurry up and catch up on all the rehash epics. Once everything else has an epic version (increasing the amounts of seals scrolls and shards and item options) then making new content for lvl 20 only will make sense.

Until then its pointless to make lvl 20 content .. cause we already dont have enough content to make it fun to play lvl 16-20 ... let alone what to do at lvl 20.

Oh, and what's the name of the one where you have to lead the kobold's 5 dogs out of the sewer?

Just think, on EPIC, you'd have to lead 5 Xyzzys out without getting overrun and munched to death!

Basically. I don't really see them epicing out existing packs that are even remotely popular, unless they make some kind of "epic unlock" ddo store function. Which wouldn't exactly be warmly received, and they know it. For Devil Assault, it made sense since very few people bought it in its pre-epic/Chrono form.

Thinka bout that one with the sneaking (forget its name) or water works. But the big problem is the DEV team doesnt realize what epic or awesome actually mean .. they prefer the whole if its not a heavy grind that makes you want to quit then its not worth programing.

Most people I know and group with vehemently oppose rehashing old content, so, if we're gonna be slinging words, I'd say you're an statistical outlier.

Epic Gh is all but done...remember a few updates ago when Tor could be run on Epic cuz it slipped thru the cracks????

A little Birdie told me that Epic vale/shroud was being tested way way back when we had that long wait for Mod 9 to be released.....so I'm guessing that is all but done also.

All they need to do is "flip the switch"
