Rargh, 50% horc sale! Woot! Wait, now what?

So, 50% Horc sale, yay, i bought it and went to the character generation screen to try my hand at rolling up one of these sexy horned beasts but ran myself around in circles trying to figure out what specific toon I would like to play.

a. Fighter and barbarian pure DPS are out because, well, boring (I like versatility of purpose).
b. Paladin THF sounds nice but really you just click a whole lot more for similar DPS, so that's out too.
c. Anything that is MAD (multiple stat dependent) is not necessarily optimal, as effectively, horcs have 2 less stat points
d. Clerics are out because I've played too many of them lately
e. FvS not unlocked on the server with a free character slot

So, what is left? Big F'n Stick build? The Classic Rocker?

The Classic Rocker, or a monk, were my two greatest temptations but discarded the monk for MAD problems. I'm not convinced that I would like playing a Classic Rocker as being a buff bot + melee is not really my style. I tend to be most tempted by ideas that can cover a few of the persistent DPS, burst DPS, healing, CC, hate tanking, intimitanking options (say, 3?). However, I'm not sure that Horc is really designed to be optimal for a more versatile build (compared to Helf for instance).

Go for the Monk. HOrc Monks can be really nice with the extra Str with racial Str to boot.

I'm enjoying the heck out of my tactics Kensai Half Orc. I do feel pretty limited, though, because I really can't do much by myself without some way to refill my red bar more quickly than just chugging pots.

A Warchanter Half Orc Bard sounds nice since you really don't need a ton of Charisma for a Warchanter.

I have only the one half orc at the moment (TR of an old EU gimp, levelling as a 13 rogue/7monk) and while he is a lot of fun, their primary selling point is pure melee dps - for most other purposes unless you're after a flavour build you're generally better off with somethine else - though i think i remember something from Eladrin about them eventually getting racial boosts for "keepers" (ie druids) which would be in line with Eberron lore, so long-term you could level one as a caster or something to get a couple of past lives ready for druid if/when it eventually gets released.

Of the 2 half blood races, now that half elves actually have the dilantette enhancement lines implemented I find I've been enjoying them quite a lot - they're awesome if you like to have truly versatile characters, though investing in a good paper bag is probably a good idea

What about the Orcsploiter? A HO Genghis Khan? A staff build (e.g., rogue 13 / monk 7 or rogue 13 / barb 6 / ftr 1)? Some sort of hate-tank? A cleric 12-based melee build like this one?

Bit messed up hey? I haven't put a lot of thought into it but it seemed like with a horc you could take a medium DPS build with great utility and whack Horc onto it to get good DPS and keep the utility. I think this is definitely true for a Classic Rocker build but I can't think of many others that it would work for (a battle cleric would be one).

Actually, I've been trying to do the same thing, as pure DPS bores me too and I like off-the-wall builds. The problem is you took a lot off the table already: no pure DPS; no pallies (too clicky?); no clerics or FvS (bored of the former, the latter isn't unlocked on server); nothing too MAD-y; and you sound indifferent to bards. So what's left? Monks would be fine: you can dump-stat INT & CHA and basically lose nothing important. Same with rangers, though you lose out on your HO THF DPS boosts.

I built a bare knuckle brawler Fighter 12/Monk 8 that is a lot of fun to play. I think the next HOrc I roll will be a pure monk based somewhat on the Horcrux build by Anthios. Monks are a DPS build that involve a lot of thought for using your punches and finishers so you might find it interesting enough.
