    Default Launcher Will Not Open

    1. Search the Knowledge Base. Please. Pretty please. With everything on top.
    2. Describe the problem completely and exactly. Include all error messages. Completely.
    3. Describe all troubleshooting that you have already done. Including any wacky rituals or smacking the side of your computer.
    4. Post a dxdiag of your computer. This can be obtained by clicking Start->Run, then typing 'dxdiag' (without the quotes). You then can save the information to a text file, and then post it to the forums.
    5. If you're having a launcher issue, please post your launcher logs. These can be found in C:\Documents and Settings\<yourname>\My Documents\Dungeons and Dragons Online\Launcher. On Vista it will be here: c:\users\name\appdata\local\turbine\Dungeons and Dragons online\launcher. Also kindly enclose the log entry with a pair of code tags (click the "#" sign in the editor or type [code] log here [ /code] with no space before the /). This makes it much easier to read.
I am running DDO off of a flash drive. I have Windows 7. It had been working fine for quite a while, but one day I clicked on ddolauncher.exe and nothing happened other than the fan running faster for a few seconds, as if it were going to start a CPU-hogging program. After waiting for the familiar box with a gorgon picture in it to appear, I checked the Task Manager and there was no DDO running. I have tried to run it as an administrator, TurbineRegisterGDF, removing and re-adding it to my firewall exceptions list, and even re-downloading it from scratch. I am 100% positive my laptop can run DDO because I have played DDO on it from both a flash drive and the system hard drive, so the computer specs are not the problem.

I tried searching the Knowledge Base.

I described the problem above; there are no errors because nothing happens when I click on ddolauncher. Ask if more information is needed.

Troubleshooting somewhat listed above. Ask if more information is needed.

    Here's the dxdiag:

There are no launcher logs? This might have to do with DDO being on a flash drive, but I checked for Document folders with DDO folders inside of them. The one that I found on the C drive (/Libraries/Documents/Dungeons and Dragons Online) only contains ddo.keymap and UserPreferences.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. =D

If the launcher does not run then it would appear to either be security-related or simply not found.

I say the latter because the section of your dxdiag does not show your flash drive:

    Code:

    ------------------------
    Disk & DVD/CD-ROM Drives
    ------------------------
          Drive: C:
    Free Space: 382.1 GB
    Total Space: 464.8 GB
    File System: NTFS
          Model: Hitachi HTS545050B9A300
          Drive: D:
          Model: TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS-L633Y
         Driver: c:\windows\system32\drivers\cdrom.sys, 6.01.7600.16385 (English), , 0 bytes
So is your flash drive being disconnected by windows perhaps?

Have any changes in security programs occurred before this issue arose?

As you have recently downloaded the install files I would uninstall the game then install to the C: drive to exlcude the flash drive from troubleshooting.

Concerning drivers you'll find newer Intel display drivers here:
    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/conf...ae+HD+Graphics

    and chipset here:
    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/conf...&Dwnldid=19597

As regards launcher log file (which may not be present recently if the game fails to launch anyway)

The directory c:\users\name\appdata\ will be hidden by default so Control Panel>Folder options>View>Show hidden files and folders should bring it into view.

How would the launcher not be found? I am opening the folder and clicking on the actual file, shouldn't it know the path to the file? And the file must exist if it exists, right?

I actually had two flash drives plugged in when I ran the dxdiag - perhaps it simply does not show removable devices? That section of the dxdiag was called "Disk & DVD/CD-ROM Drives", nothing about removable storage as far as I can tell.

I am pretty sure that the flash drive isn't being disconnected, since the flash drive still shows when I go into Windows Explorer. When it does eject the flash drive, it either disappears from the selectable things (if in the "Computer" screen) or closes the Windows Explorer window (if I am currently on a screen that is a folder in my flash drive).

I had not changed any security recently before that issue.

I really do not want to install DDO on my C drive... I know that the flash drive runs DDO very well, and I would like to be able to carry DDO around with me to use on other computers.

Sorry, but I do not know much of anything about drivers... What is a display driver and what would that link do for me? Same with chipsets =\

I apologize if I sound argumentative, as if I am adamant that certain things could not be the problem. I am just reading everything you say and answering it to the best of my ability... Thank you for your help.

    Default EDIT to the problem

Today, DDO works. I do not remember, but I think I have had similar problems before. I guess it seemingly randomly either does or doesn't work each day. I have no clue what's up with it, but I hope that the problem is now gone for good - or at least a few weeks.

That stood out, the game on Vista/Win7 should be launched from "TurbineInvoker.exe" not DNDLauncher.exe or TurbineLauncher.exe (note all of these will be the ones with the ddo "shield" icon, the ones that show up as turbinelauncher.exe that have the "unknown" icon are actually turbinelauncher.exe.config).

dndlauncher is now just a 'shortcut' really it calls turbinelauncher.exe to launch but on Vista/Win7 the game was written to be run via turbineinvoker due to user account control (UAC) and permissions.

You may want to also make sure your username is given "full" permission to the flash drivers themselves (Open the "root" of the drive e.g. if the flash drive is listed as G: open "G:") and right-click on the blank area of the folder (i.e. not on a subfolder or any files in there) and choose Properties > Security (tab) and look for your Windows username in the list, if you select it and below "Full Control" does not have a tick (checkmark) in the "Allow" column then click the "Edit" button to modify the permissions.

1st and 2nd paragraphs: That's odd; I'm sure that when I first downloaded DDO and it put a shortcut on my desktop it linked to ddolauncher.exe. But thank you!

3rd paragraph: Hmm, there is no security tab... I think that means it has no security, but I'm not worried either way.

    Thank you very much.
