First rare in Devil's Battlefield

I am AA 16. Yesterday I went into Devil's Battlefield for the first time. Three attempts at Gatesmasher:

With Bard 12 hireling -- hireling died, I escaped
With Barbarian 16 hireling -- Gatesmasher down
With Bard 12 hireling again (now that I know what I am doing) -- Gatesmasher down

Does this count?

One question: Does Gatesmasher have an anti-healing aura? When trying to heal or drink a Remove Curse pot, I got a "Your spell fails due to the presence of quell" message, or something like that. But I did not see any quells.

Clay Golems have a habit of bestowing a healing-curse when they hit you - it blocks divine healing, but not LoH or repair spells (don't quote me on the LoH).

Normally I'm on a WF wizzie, so I wait until they're dead before removing the curse - and only cause I don't like it hanging over my head.

Healing curse does block Lay on Hands and Unyielding Sovereignty.

I'll have to check, but I don't think you're the first person to kill a rare in the Devil's Battlefield.

I assume "does this count" means, 'Am I awsome because I "soloed" a rare in the devil battlefield at level 16?'.

Is it an achievement? Sure, at least it's a personal achievement for you. You're clearly happy with yourself.

Is it impressive? Not very. From your screenie, it looks like you widdled down the golem with long-ranged cheapshots that don't even break the golem's DR. It's something any low level toon could replicate with an addy throwing hammer.

Then I guess the answer to my original question: "No it does not count"

Seriously, for a ranger 16 killing Gatesmasher is easy. His attendants are two tielfings and a barbazu. I aggro them from a distance. Barbazu teleports to me, tieflings run up. Three of them are within what I often handle in Vale. Once they are dead, run up to Gatesmasher, get his aggro, and jump off the cliff. He stays on the cliff, and I range him in safety.

The "achievement" part is figuring it all out on the first try.

you want a challenge? go solo vons 1 at level 7 as a ranger and then range Deadheart with only a +2 longbow. :P
