As far as a foreign language goes the first to come to mind is Aranticus. Some of his text has grammar, spelling, or punctuation errors. But I never think dude is stupid. I have no doubt that he's twice as smart as me even with his short comings in the English language and putting it to text. Again it's not his first language.
There's typing the wrong thing because your fingers are all over the place (last night as an example I think I typed: U ciykd yse a gaste L( - yes, my right hand missed the home key ... and there's typing the wrong thing because you don't know any better. In any case, if I know what they mean I'll not bother to risk upset by correcting them.

I think we all know there are many non-native english speakers out there... but what really scares me is that the majority of those mixing up there/they're/their ARE native english speakers. In fact, I'm pretty sure I see better word selection from the non-native speakers, presumably because they're actually taught english rather than picking a significant proportion up from peers, complete with bad habits.

Now, without further adieu, ect ect, I bid you ado. *twitch*

I discovered Yoda was a fraud when he said "Concentrate all your fire on the nearest starship!" instead of "On the nearest starship, all your fire, concentrate!" (it's possible the word "your" wasn't there but otherwise it's word for word!)

    Most disappointed, I was.

    Hallo Sweyn,

Hehe, based on my personal observation (and some of my friends'), I agree with you. Typo mistakes aside, I think I this is not particular only to English native speakers, but native speakers of other languages as well. I think I read somewhere that a theory was that native speakers, since they used it daily and it comes almost effortlessly, indirectly becomes "lazy and complacent'. They can speak well, but they do not pay as much attention to grammar, spelling and punctuation as they believe it comes naturally with their proficiency in speaking.

However, non-native speakers who take up another language, pays more attention to the details of the grammar and spelling as they are more nervous and they take more effort to make sure they got those details right. However, speech-wise they are not as fluent as native speakers as there is a difference between the thought process and effort taken in spontaneous speech compared with a written text.

p/s: My friend in UK always tell me how the folks there always ask him to spell certain words. And to think I used to make fun of his spelling back in school!

I used to be an English teacher, so normally incorrect grammar usage makes me cringe. However, I'd much rather see incorrect spelling and improper usage of "their/they're/there" than hear people incessantly speaking on voice chat about how awesome their toons are.

Its hard sometimes to understand why people say things that they say in English as it doesn't make any sense to me and it bugs me lol.

1 thing that always bothers me is when I hear a guy saying " We are pregnant"........I don't know it just sounds awfully awkward and wrong...... there are many more that make me think if this is right or not but can't think of any right now.

I think, if we're talking about typing mistakes, I would like to say, that names should be written with capital letter.
There is no making excuses to non-native English speaking- this is what all languages got in common

    LOL.

For us native speakers, though, I think we should try our best to type some reasonably acceptable English (hjeal, pwn, rez, and these other slang conventions aside). My gf's first prolonged exposure to native English speakers is probably through DDO. I'm daily embarassed at the bad manners and horrible grammar that she witnesses on a daily basis in the game. After explaining to her that we type like 4-year-olds on DDO, there are lots of foreigners that play (like her), and online peeps are just rude at times, I found out she had a low opinion of Americans before DDO, so DDO didn't alter that at all. I guessed that resolved things in a way...

It always makes me cringe a little.. I guess I'd rather see horrible spelling overall than great spelling with the misuse of common words. Some people just can't spell (or type), but the constant misuse of words is either laziness or something no one has ever bothered to correct (whether you are a native speaker or not).

That said, I feel it's rude to call someone out on their word usage during gameplay. Grammar lectures in the middle of a quest are no fun and games are supposed to be fun.

Perhaps it's this complacency with seemingly minor errors that has doomed the American education system. But I'll keep my grammar-related cringes to myself

`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
    All mimsy were the borogoves,
    And the mome raths outgrabe.

    "Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
    The frumious Bandersnatch!"

He took his vorpal sword in hand:
Long time the manxome foe he sought --
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
    And stood awhile in thought.

And, as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
    And burbled as it came!

One, two! One, two! And through and through
    The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
    He went galumphing back.

"And, has thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
    O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!'
    He chortled in his joy.

`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
    Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
    All mimsy were the borogoves,
    And the mome raths outgrabe.

Language is evolving . Now go away before I stab you with my kspoon
