    2) The hats ALL have the bonus slots in them.
    3) The only difference is cosmetic and a slight bonus to doubloons gain. (Which from what I've seen in the preview, is NOT the limiting resource for crafting)
    4) If you really want a different hat, you can buy it from the barter system.

I think you're wrong...especially with the later clarifications. All items are identical other than the purely visual appearance.

As to visual, we already have that in the form of items you could get in 2006 but not in 2007+, etc etc.

Wow, this thread delivers. Hat drama! That's one I didn't expect. Though by now I should've known... this forum will whine about every little thing.

So for those of us transferred in from Europe, is character age preserved? or are all our alts only months old & ofc all founders having lost their founder status....

A character I made in July on Orien got a tier 6 hat. I'm sure a lot of you complaining might end up getting the same surprise

You should read the forum thread about guild usurption if you want Drama

One of my Alts was created on Orien a few months after it came online and got the tier 6 hat, for those worried about it.

Time to put this in perspective people... As some have said, they're just hats, and I for one am not going to take off my Minos to wear a hat that may or may not have useful qualities, unless it's cosmetic only.

Besides, it's Lamannia right now, and things will be tweaked. Not to mention most likely wiped clean for one of the upcoming updates

*begin voice tone indicating sarcasm intended* Heck, just make the hats so that any one of them thrown into the Stone/Change with a Founder's helm combines them into a top tier hat. Win/win. Get the good hat and get rid of the Founder helm all in one swell foop.
(I always stash mine away in the bank, just in case they have some future Twig-like usefulness some day.)
Seriously, I like the idea of being able to craft the new-Alt static items into useful things... Ever since I've been able to create Alts at level 4 (Vet) I've tossed the Founder's helm as soon as I got a lesser false life item, usually a belt in the Alts first gear set, and the +1 AC trinket (game preorder bonus from 2005-6) as soon as another necklace replaced it, again usually in the starter set.

Let me combine the two (LFL, +1AC) into a trinket, a spot I usually don't fill until I get a Mummified Bat, freeing up spots for Proof from Poison and Disease Immunity belt/necklace...

with Turbines recent hat policy, even pointy hats would be nerfed to oblivion at release already. How else could we have a ninja mask thats not vorpal on a natural 1-20?

The only thing with these pirate hats. Will anyone really wear them over a Minos?

There is some solid competition in the helm slot, but being able to add Seeker +6 or Backstabbing +5 to the helm is pretty unique. Dunno if its possible to buy a second hat or not, but if so I'll be making one each of those as a future proof for new gear. Already a lot of nice endgame trinkets out that are a hard sell compared to Bloodstone. Plenty of places to get Heavy Fort and Toughness now, though personally I've a GS HP Helm, so should the day come that the 45 HP isn't desired, or can be gotten else where, I could see myself tossing on this helm with the Backstabbing and switching Tharne's off to something new that's better, or getting the Seeker and making use of the Gem of Many Facets should it ever be changed like many want it to be.

To me, its about gearing options, and this is a pretty nice option to open up.

If it actually has some stats or something, maybe i'd understand.. But really, no one cares that your hat isn't quite a shiny as the next guys.

I made my main char like the day the game went live and never rerolled.. I want a hat that gives +20 strength!

Here would be the reasons, keep in mind that original flame was before the revalation of many now known events. So in part the complaint was based on a lack of information from Turbine.

    1) System is not based on Veteran Status - Founders are those that were in game at the beggining. So someone that has been in game fro 2, 3 even 4 years can never earn founder status. Take for example ArkoHighStar, just above my post. He joined just "4 months" prior.
    2) System gives preference to reincarnates, however many peeps oldest toons will never be reincarnated because they are favor anchors. When you reicarnate you "lose" favor. How many people run eilte Titan's anymore? hehe... get my point? Not grinding that stuff again.
    3) VIP's are given preference yet many premium accounts have spent the cash far exceeding VIP's. I am one of those having converted my account over to premium.

You never know how it will play out in game, but first impressions of this system really hit me the wrong way. I know the Dev's are only responding to the community but they put about as much thought into this as they did fixing the fear spell.

Anyone who's crafting a Min2 HP item anyway may. I leveled a character using an Ancient Band recently as well; blew right through to cap. I made her a Minos, but she's never worn it.

Pre-epic gear though, I suspect not that many folks will wear them. Once you start collecting epic bits and consolidating slots you may find heavy fort and toughness end up in other places. Those folks that use Intimidate helms may see a huge benefit as well.

what I want to know is how in the heck does a 5 year old D&D game not have a single floppy or pointy Wizards cap? Yet has a dozen varieties of Pirate head wear...

And how does a D&D game with so many pirate/high seas themes not have an "lost island w/ dinosours" themed after Isle Of Dread...

Because I think the Devs still have a fixation with pirates, even though that meme has sailed a long time ago.

I would think if they really wanted to put Pirate based goodies into the game - they'd add some named/theamed gear to Three Barrel Cove, and make it a pack worth buying. It's the existing Pirate Cove, and yet it's hard to justify the TP expense for a handful of "meh" quests, even if they are in a nice looking zone. Add some decent, named, pirate-themed items from 3BC - and it'd stop being dead-content. But, I think that rehashing the Pirate theme for the birthday event is... well, not the direction I'd have gone. Beef up the existing content with the fetish gear - and make the Birthday event something a tad more unique, imho.

I hope so, I really do. I'd love to be wrong on long-time players going to the newer servers getting screwed over. In that light, I still don't know why they don't just go by account age instead of character age - but whatever.

I still think the tiered idea is a bad one, even if my new-server characters get the glitzy hat, and again not the direction I'd have gone. But then, this is not my game to design - so all I can do is shout from the cheap-seats.

First they would need to actually design some dino monsters. Which they should do. Right now.

Two posts up, I've already mentioned it as a possibility. However, since I haven't gotten the hat for myself - I'm not prepared to sup just yet. No offense to Hambo or Crazy - I'd need to see it with my own eyes, since a screenshot won't tell me when a character was created. And Turbine's track record on this sort of thing could be best described as being "spotty". I still have that Charlie Brown feeling, and the only way it'll go away is to see if I get to kick the football this time around.

But, I do own up when I'm wrong. I just need to be wrong first.
