Default It was CJ's fault.(please stay in the blades)

There is a method to cleric madness.

Last evening on a Shroud run, my Cleric/Ranger (17/2....don't ask why, long story) was healing in an 11 man run, one other cleric type.

Parts 1, 2, and 3, all aces, completed in good time. Fun group, solid folks. Some of the mics were a bit loud, but no huge issues.

We get to part 4. Trash goes down quickly, big boy comes out and things are going steady. As blade come in, we are at about 20%. With the group there, I am guessing that a few folks forgot power attack, or there was good DPS, just not enough Boss Beaters (Met/puregood/holy/sliver/minII etc.).

Then, in 3 seconds, it goes to Hades in a Handbag. Someone...Not I, and not the other cleric, yells "Get out of the blades".As folks scatter, Harry drops a DBFball, meteor swarm, and several claw swipes. 4 DPS, and two Magi types die in record time.

The ONE DPS who stayed in the blades, and my heals are centered on, survives. He survives the next round as well...but pretty much all is lost.

So, why was it CJ's fault (CJ, that's me)? Simple. I did not say "Stay in the blades" or "Stay in the blades or I will kill you myself" (TM Stainer) prior to the round. I should have told the team prior to the round, and instead I just assumed because it had been so long since I had seen anyone try to scatter and survive, I assumed that it was out of everyone's system.

The good news is that I did a follow up run 30 min later, and everything was full of win. No problems, no leaving blades.

Yes, I know this is a simple story, and there are some areas where I should go into further detail, but my point to all of this...Healers, let your party know what you expect them to do, even if you think they already know. Saves time and trouble.

    Regards,

    Default ???

My understanding is that Harry uses normal agro methods in part 4. That means, the big DPS hitters should have agro no matter how weirdly the dice have rolled by then. When I started running shroud (maybe last summer) it was common on Orien for more wimpy toons (under 400hp or so, even with evasion) to run from the blades. The big boys would stay in, and presumably keep agro. I haven't seen this for awhile, so I assume that too many squishy rogues were pulling away with agro.

I'm really starting to believe that any group that can't reliably pull a one-rounder (pretty much any pug I'm used to, probably any you want to fill fast) should at find out if they have a toon that can tank Harry for round 4. I suspect that the real point of such a tank is to be a sacrifice to the lag gods, but it would keep the squishies alive too (even if they flee the blades).

Best you can always hope for is someone is wearing Ooze guard and plops out a pet before Harry drops while killing the trash. Inform your group that you will be centering your heals on said Ooze as you know it will stay in the fight come hell or high water!
I've met and chatted with both Dave Arneson and Gary Gygax.
To both of you, I raise a glass in toast and say THANK YOU!

    Default Other Healer

I was the other healer (and the leader) that run in part 4 I was pretty much only paying attention to the red bars and my hot bars. I kept my mass cures going until i noticed that people's bars weren't going up then realized everyone had scattered includung my heal target. I try to announce my heal target at begining but he arived while I was typing it out.

We also had nobody who could open doors in part 3

@Tap4black: I might just make it in a second DT armor for that purpose only problem is I'd need more grinding for it.
I hate grinding but at least we know what rune it is now.
Hmm I'll need a ooze rune and a salt or water rune. I have the other rune I'd put on.
