MKV files

Ok I'm hoping someone here can help me. I currently have a few MKV video files on my computer that I'm having trouble playing correctly. When I play them with either VLC or SMPlayer there is a rather large blue/green strip vertically and a ghost image on the playback. I'm not sure is this is a codec problem or media player problem. If anyone can shed some light on this for me I'd appreciate it or if any other information is need just ask. Thanks

I get the "Mega" version of the K-Lite Codec Pack and use the included Media Player Classic Home Cinema edition.

If it's not a player or codec problem, the either the file itself messed up when you... "acquired" it or the person that made the file messed up.

Once you install it, it will play mkv files in window media player. It is what I use and how I encode any videos I make or rip.
