    Good advice!

OP, watching this I sort of feel like the Skylords is the orphan guild that the server adopted to try to help. You've definitely got some people pulling for you

Approach the officers in tells to help get such going... also use the motd if you need to. Post and plan an meeting with your officers to figure out where people are, then again with members a few days later in order to figure out what these people are looking for from the guild and draw some plans together to get there.

Let me know when you are interested in selling, because I'm interested in buying. Skylords can drink for free.

Any chance for an update on the guild repair?

I am very interested in how this is going to work out. The sale itself is still mind-boggling to me, but the new leader seems willing to put in the time and effort to turn it around. You have bigger cajones than many people in DDO for doing that. I truly hope it works out well for you and that you can lead Skylords into a brighter future. Good Luck and Godspeed.

Good luck to the OP. So far my runs with Skylords have been unimpressive, with one particular member either being grossly incompetent or intentionally griefing a tempest run (ran in early at end, kept messing with puzzle, kept pulling more mob agro despite the beautiful chiming of multiple 'dings' from other newbs).

I told him what he did wrong, got some sort of childish expletive reply and squelched him.

I don't blacklist guilds and I'm encouraged by the OP's comments that he might sort the wheat from the chaff.

Every Guild is bound to have some "bad seeds", but 90% of the Skylords are just newbies, which are figuring out the game....would you be kind enough to send me a pm with my guildies name, don't worry i won't kick him xD

I have been a Skylord for just over two months. I’m in game at least every other day, probably closer to every day.

The Skylords haven’t been much of a guild, really. In all of the time I’ve been in I have only been in one guild-related party, and that was not a complete guild party (3 Skylords + 3 PUG). Beyond that, we passed around a few items, mostly among a few players. Rarely did any conversation happen in guild chat when I was on. (Maybe it’s different in a different time zone.)

Renown farming seems like an accurate description. Almost everyone became an officer. I had three characters who were Skylords officers, none of whom had ever spoken with the (previous) guild leader. I was recruited by someone with whom I quested for a few hours, not a blind invite. I was never instructed to recruit. (Everyone was promoted before the airship got the shared chest, btw.)

The previous leader did not appear to understand how renown deteriorates. The guild had (still has, I think) a large number of characters who have not been online for weeks, creating a significant burden on the rest to keep the renown up. (Inactive accounts in the 1-4 week bracket still count against the guild according to the wiki.) Similarly, I found myself buying airship amenities when they expired – apparently that was no one’s job.

The problem with the Skylords’ guild chat is not that we aren’t paying attention; we just don’t have much to say to each other. Since we never run together – never do anything as a guild at all, really – what would we have to say to each other? The only time I saw someone say “good morning,” I responded in kind. No conversation followed. Based on earlier posts I expect that was not soulsalvager.

With all that said, I have seen only two changes to the Skylords under new leadership:
    1) I have been demoted.
    2) The airship amenities are timing out without being replaced.

So...why are you in the guild? What's the point of a guild that offers no comraderie, direction or support?

Although i would agree that not much has changed in the guild,i have to say that RL is taking up some time too,as it should. I am shocked that you have only seen 2 changes! i can bring up on many more!
    1. I have encouraged a lot of players to run together, meaning that I too have run with my guildies, sometimes with my lower level Character, and sometimes with my main Character.
2.The renown is truly a problem, but i have already started the cleanup,a few days bag for instance i cleared over 100 characters that hadn't logged in for one and half to 3 months, but i noticed, as i was cleaning up, that the modified account size grew,so i didn't want to kick everyone in a single day,or else the modified account size (the bigger it is,the more renown decay we get) might go sky-high and propel us back 3-4 levels, till the 2 weeks pass...
    3. Perhaps you weren't in when this happened, but i started a conversation with a single guildie, and in 2-3 minutes, everyone who was online joined in, one with the phrase:"I guess i could use this guild chat...Hello,anyone there?" And we all had a nice talk.
    4. A lot of people have donated plat for when we reach level 50,which then we get a new airship, now that airship costs 360.000 platinum, and guildies have already started to donate, one 500 platinum, the other 1000 platinum,to even get to the level of spending some cash for your guild, means that I,we,have made progress. The cost of the new airship of course will not be put upon the shoulders of my brothers-in-arms,but i will try to lighten it as much as possible, and so i hope will they.

The only problem that I need help is with, who is worthy to become an officer, and how to even get to the point of promoting them, although questing with people shows who is capable of being a Officer, and would lead the Guild in my stead,be the leader or guide raids and quests......

What i would an officer to be,would be:
Kind, helpful, have a good knowledge of most quests, have a few of the important packs, would help the Guild Leader in making important decisions, and point out when what his leader (me) is doing is wrong. Be online a lot, that is certainly needed, not to be online every once a month.

Those i believe are the basic things that i need from a good officer....

I will stop writing now, because i have to get back in the Game

There are several sites that host forums for gaming guilds. Grab one of those sites and encourage people to sign up for it. If you want it to be a democracy, dictatorship, or something in between you can set it out there. Granted not 100% of the people will join the forums but those that do and are active would be good people to possibly tag as officer if they contribute.

Once you have that form of communication you can further introduce new ideas to the guild. Post the link in the MOTD for the guildies and ask people to sign up.

Just some random thoughts from a lack of sleep.

Edit: A sinking ship doesn't stop sinking till the crew works together. Some people who are good leaders might have been demoted, that doesn't mean they cannot be promoted. Communication is the first hurdle to cross. Once you all are talking and getting to know each other things will smooth out.

Wow, to buy a guild. I never knew that could happen. In the long run it may be easier to just start your own guild and try and recruit those you like out of Skylords.

When you are a spammer recruiting guild just to get a ship and its amenities you will have no loyalty, questing together, etc...

Default Why did I join? Why did I stay?

At the point when I joined I was around 4th level and sitting on an item that I couldn’t equip because it had a minimum guild level. The Skylords invite was the only one that I had which came from someone I knew (in game). As far as I could tell the Skylords were the best guild in all of DDO – I had no information on anything better.

Since then (2 months) I have had only one player talk to me about joining his guild; only because we were talking about the sale of the Skylords. I have three unguilded characters who get only blind invites. I would be worried that I come across as a jerk in game if it wasn’t for the fact that people I have run with keep trying to recruit my characters into their parties.

The only reason why my main is still a Skylord is because I haven’t got a Feather Fall item for him without a guild requirement. Seriously, that’s it; I was that disappointed when I found that the airship – the only thing the Skylords had going for them – was not being maintained. I have pulled one character out. I think I will leave the other two in for a little while to see if Soulsalvagers changes are successful.

Interesting...never heard of a guild sale to another player. From what you've been saying, or said you've done, OP, is to try to rebuild the guild. However it sounds as though you're taking everything on by himself. Good luck, its an uphill task...human resources management, "office" politics and de-centralizing responsibilities is not easy. For starters you might want to give someone (preferably Loftower) a temporary officership to at least get guild airship amenities up and running. You might want to read up on management books, although it may come off as cheesy advice. HTH.
    - I've been to so many raids, but I wouldn't call myself a vet, since I have yet to try out different strategies, tactics and classes in raids.

you might want to have officers in different timezones with such a huge guild, otherwise it might be be that you only promote people that you find helpful, when you are on and many members have neither leader nor officer online when they play.

Such a guild reform will only work, when you somehow can reach out to all members.
