Sorry man, it's just something done in bad taste by the former Guild Leader and you just got caught up i this "storm"

Honestly, in my mind, this ranks right up with someone who has never played DDO buying a triple TR with all of the raid loot he'd ever need, then asking the community how to play the character.

Please start off from the beginning: we know you are now a guild leader, who is your main, how long you have been playing DDO, and tell us about you, so we can start to get you up to speed with leading a guild, if indeed you do need it.

I don't see anyone that actually commented on you at all. The majority of the comments ARE aimed at the person that sold it to you. As far as the advice, the best piece of advice has already been given and really needs to be the only thing that neds to be done. Get with your Officers and decide as a Guild the direction you want to go, then implement it.

Because, almost all of us find the idea of purchasing a guild....as something completely absurd.

A guild is not an entity to be bought and sold.
A guild is a sum of its parts....you cannot buy your way where you want to be....the respect and loyalty you will have to earn...for no amount of plat will cover that bill.

And to the members of Skylords...i ask....why would you allow your loyalty to be bought and sold?

thanks for this,but all the guild members are officers,i think i recently understood that this might be a renonwfarming guild? so i dont know exactly who has been here the longest,who contributed more etc. i still might be wrong, i just have to look at all the statistics again

This is actually good advice. But OP...realize you may not remain as leader....if power is what you seek....then your headed for trouble. The best leaders seek neither power nor fame.....they seek only to improve those around them. In the end, they achieve all.

If this is the case, then you need to have a guild meeting, determine who the 4 people who have been with the guild the longest are, and if they are willing to help. If so, demote everyone else and then go from there. You may have a mass exodus, but if you start with a core of people that have been around for a while and are willing to help, then you have a much better base to build on.

OP, in essence, the old guild leader made a profit by selling other peoples efforts. It's a very slippery slope and I for one would like a PM with the old guild leaders toon names so he can be properly entered into my 'friends' list.

As for running a guild...

1) Do you have officers you can rely on? Look at what you have and clean up the trash/promote people you can trust.
2) Take stock of what you have, where you are, and where you want to be as a guild
3) Discuss #2 with the officers and set a vision/plan/goals
4) Create a guildportal website and require everyone to sign up. It's an invaluable communications tool. DDO has no guild communication tools.
5) Create a Code of Conduct
6) Grow think skin...running a guild is a job. It's a lot more work than most are prepared for.

Read this page on Guilds http://ddowiki.com/page/Guild on the DDO Wiki to cover the basics.

Prepare for some active players to leave the guild though, if only because buying a guild is not the conventional way to become guild leader, to say the least.

If you think Skylords was in bad shape, before it was sold to you, then try to articulate why it was in bad shape. Then think about those issues.

There are a few things working against you getting any advice in this thread:

1. You just bought yourself the leader role in a guild, and you are admitting you have no idea how to be a leader. How do you think that is going to make you look to your new guildies? You can see how it makes you look to the forumites.

2. People are really focused on what an (insert your favorite explicative here) the former leader is. This is akin to Dom Draper handing the reigns to Michael Scott and saying "c'ya, good luck guys!".

3. Are you sure you haven't been scammed? Have people started leaving yet? It is a real good possibility that they went on a massive recruiting frenzy, made the guild look very attractive, and then sold it before a bunch of people left. You may have bought yourself a lemon.

Well to tell ya the truth (if you want me to start from the very beggining), i see this LFM a level 5 dwarf cleric puts up,out of pity that he will possibly be sent hatemail, i will not write his name,anyways. The Lfm said, Lvl 45 Guild,want to sell, pst with offers, i was very confused about this,and decided to msg him and ask him the guilds name and why would he sell it,and how much would he sell it first. He told me the name is Skylords,and i was immediately shocked that such a high level guild and a guild which name is quite well known,would even be for sale, so i asked how much would he want for it, (i thought this was all a fake, and he would take my money etc.) and he said he wanted around 100k-200k, and i said ok i have 100k,deal's a deal, but i asked him to invite me to skylords first,to see if he really was the leader,i was stunned to find out he WAS!! He appointed me his successor,and asked me to give him the cash first, i gave it to him, thinking that even if he wanted to steal my cash,100k isnt that much to cry over, so i see a crown next to my name,and i am suddenly the guild master,after a few seconds he decides to go, (he probably wanted to reroll or something, i am not so sure), and i think who can i, even introduce myself,as their guild master,anyway i tell them that i am the new guild master,no really cares only a SINGLE post saying gratz, nothing absulotely more, i change the message saying, i am blah blah blah, i hope we get on together ok etc. and i log out. Desperate for knowledge of how the ( ) to run a guild, i post this! My main is a level 17 paladin, which is also the guild master, i have been playing ddo for 5-6 months,i am premium,so i have spent some money on the game, and i wish it just works out,i really hope i dont destroy the guild,if that is to happen, *throws his crown down* :P..... ok as for advice, i am sure you can msg me! and give me your name too, so i know your char!

As a former guild leader, I will say that what made my guild work was the people in it.

1) Get to know your members, try to play with them and see what they like and what they don't like.
2) I don't think every member as an officer works well (personal thought but just put it here to let you think about it) as someone who's just invited to the guild really don't have a feel for the guild and know how the guild runs.
3) Officers should be people who the members trust and who the leader trusts. They should earn the position through what they bring to the guild (game knowledge and build knowledge, are always good things any officer should have)
4) I always found that the guild I ran worked well because we were like an extended family. I still keep in touch with many who left the game from that guild. I also knew when the active members of the guild got small in number it was time to move on and find a matching guild that could give my members what they needed.
