    Angry Surname change

Would line to petition the DDO devs to allow surname changes. Given that the surname is not unique and is not used to identify a character, this would seem to be a dirt simple change. This would allow those of us with multiple characters to use a common surname.

It is already possible for people with multiple characters to use a common surname.

All my toons have had the same surname since I started, but I've heard this complaint way too frequently from others. Delete and reroll isn't much of an option.

But I don't think it will happen. Apparently, Turbine does not have the technological capabilities of doing this without messing up their system somehow. And I doubt they will take the time/effort to change this seeing as it wouldn't make them any extra money. Business is Business.

I was under the impression you could already ask a GM to change your surname at any time. It is the first name that is a bother.

Surnames cannot be changed either through asking a GM or paying for a name change.

If Turbine allowed this, anyone want to bet it would have to be paid for?

    Epiphanies rarely alter bloodlines.

Sure it could, They would just make it so that you have pay TP, maybe a solid amount, like 600 to 1000 per shot.

TP for character name changes is a bad idea. It is easy to get TP, you can either buy 600 or earn 600 pretty easily. What this means is, a lot of people changing their names. Your name is not just your name, but it is your in game reputation. If anyone could change their char name as easy as clicking 1 button in the DDO store then the infamous players would.. well.. no longer be infamous (until people found out, and then again they change their name and keep repeating). This is why the current name change system states that they have the right to reject your name request if you have any infractions on your account. This is a good idea and I think it should stay that way (regardless if they add the ability to change surnames or not).

OK, I do find this quote about reputation being important by "Unreliable" pretty funny. On a side note it is not the given name being requested but the surname. The given name is unique but the surname is non-unique.

What possible reason would you have for not wanting the poor OP to pay his $ to change his surname?

I thought only Pale Masters were surrounded by a negative energy aura...

I would pay to change my last name and I'm the cheapest jerk on the server.
I accidentally misspelled the last time of one of my characters, and didn't figure it out until it was too late. I've gone though 3 TRs now having to explain to people that ask what my last name means that I'm an idiot.

I would love to change some of my toons surnames ... for example when i created my rogue "the Unseen" seemed totally fitting for her ... now i tred into wizard and now that surname simply seems ridiculous. I think the idea with buying it in ddo-store would be awesome, BUT only for surnames, this way toons could still be identified (as first name is the unique one and stays the same).

    /point and mock------->

On the OP's note, if they had the ability to "easily" do this, they would have offered this as a paid option much like server relocation, first name re-name etc...long ago.

It's funny that /help still lists /changename and /changesurname as viable commands.

In the European Servers the surname changing was open to all characters with a simple tell to GMs.
So tecnally is possible to change surname. I did it many times when I was on Devourer.
