You know what else is fun, but not really Cleric related?

After Part 4, announce "Ok, Mass Death Ward on me when we get up". On your Bard. Not everyone uses VC, but it's a good clue as to who pays attention and who doesn't.

The alternative to that is to announce "Haste on me in 3, 2, 1..." while running a Cleric. Makes ppl gather for mass buffs quick... then when they ask about the Haste, chug a Haste Pot and run off.

(BTW, kinda mean to do this in a pug where you don't know the Cleric/FvS... I reserve it for when I have a guild FvS or Cleric in group that knows I'm kidding and will cast it anyways.)

I've been looking for better portal beaters for my Bard for MONTHS and have not found anything near suitable on the AH. For reference, I just go to weapons and type in "Construct Bane". I find it as Lesser Bane on Light Crossbows and (Crappy Prefix) of Greater Bane on a RR:Horc Bastard Sword.

Yes, grab something and wail with the melees, but I don't think a Cleric should have to really shell out for a weapon that will be used to damage portals for 5-10 a swing.
those anarchic of pure good are perfectly fine. AFAIK, they'll do as much as a gcb (unless it's adamantine). I actually just picked up a cheapie anarchic burst of pure good gs for my fvs.

I'm fairly new to DDO, but have played a healer in other MMOs. I have a level 15 Cleric, but have yet to Shroud.

The first hurdle most new healers need to get over is thinking it's always your fault if someone dies. It rarely is. It's usually an overzealous zerger who "knows the quest like the back of their hand". In my experience anyway.

I think healers should be vocal about their style right up front - it can alleviate some hasty expectations from "that" type of player...I usually let them know that my heals will be mostly aura-based (until things get intense anyway). It's not my job to chase anyone - it's their job to not run away from me. Hirelings will chase you, I probably won't.

You consider your successful experiences and they give you the knowledge and confidence to draw the line between "my bad" and "your bad". A Cleric pretty much has to be AFK for much of anything to be their fault in any of the content I've seen to this point. There's a lot of content out there that allows a RS2 Cleric to never have to spend a single SP on a heal if the group is good.

Depends. If it's someone I know, I've got a good idea of their class split and race... I don't play that game with Rogues, but I can let Dwarven Fighters and WF Barbs get down to the middle of the first letter in their name.

You get extra points if you can wait long enough for their name to flash green starting to speak on VC. Double Bonus points if they raise their voice in panic when they announce that they "NEED A HEAL!".

You just flat out win Shroud if you can get them to kite-jump around with 20 HP in South Central while you drag in a train of kitties.

OH! And in pugs on Pallai, I announce loudly in voice chat that I just got new Met. PG Kamas and I'm so excited to see how my DPS measures up.

Sometimes in Part 1, I hand out my 5 charges of Halfling Heroes Companion and make bets with myself which melee will notice it first. Sometimes, I throw it on the Wizard.

Last but not least... get slightly ahead, summon one of them new' fangled Orthons and announce in a panicked fashion "OMG, ORTHON ON THE HEALER!!!!" Once had 5 guys beating on that thing for a good 15-20 seconds, lol.

OH!!! Last one, I swear! Get on Voice Chat in Part 5 and ask "Are you guys taking any damage? I don't see damage on my screen. Did he drop?" All the melees freak out for a split second.

My favorite is when they yell, "I've only got 20 HPs left!"

Of course my reply is "Seriously? Did you start your con at a negative number?" as I hit the CLW button.

I hate the shroud kitties. Those damned things will run the entire maze to find me and knock me flat on my back. I keep telling them they'd better buy me dinner first. Cheap b***ards. Any melee that kills all the kitties chasing me will never die. The rest of them are Harry snacks.

Og, once I stayed behind to craft and I guess not all the trash was cleared from Part 2, cause as I was running through the maze, I was confronted with 2 kitties. With no SP.

I'd have been fine if I had SP, but I had to bat them around with a Quarterstaff while trying to scroll heal myself and not get tripped. *bat* *hjeal* (jump, jump, jump) *bat* *bat* OG, TRIPPED!!!! *hjealhjealhjeal*

And the whole time, I was yelling in vent "OMG, TRASH! YOU GUYS LEFT KITTIES!!!!"

    It was pretty funny.

This is why I cannot play a healer. However, I try not to complain about healings in general. Although when I drop from 750+ HP while tanking Horoth with decent Heal Amp on and 2 Clerics and no noticeable lag....>.>

Although I can also count the same number of times where I get an Orthon and can't get a single melee to pull him off of me before going DING "Horoth Broke, Trash got me guys. Told ya."

Much respect to those who can muster the patience/fortitude to play a healer though. Someone's gotta keep us Hate tanks up....

Ok 750+ to death is beyond a joke... if you got two healers and thats happening then theres a glitch and those clerics are really rangers but the symbols are broke lmao i can honestly say ive never been in a party with healers that bad! but i have had my fair share of "Battle clerics" who of course ONLY have enough mana to heal them selves while they tank the weakest mob there and STILL manage to die and cry to the other healer for help....

Just because one person doesn't have noticeable lag, doesn't mean someone else is lag free. My graphics card froze and died in the middle of a quest once. I am sure someone died because I couldn't do anything about it. Doesn't mean I was a bad healer. Just a ****ed off one threatening to throw my PC out the window. LOL

    A. Now that you're levelling a healer, you'll discover the joys of Heal/Mass Heal cooldown timers. Depending on the race/healing amp/total HP/defenses of the Horoth tank, you can cycle out a Heal, Heal Scroll and emergency Cure Crit and still have 2 seconds on your Heal cooldown timer when the tank eats a disintegrate.

    B. Don't knock the (good) Battle/Melee Clerics! My melee Cleric Saraphima has 1699 SP and has solo healed Shrouds and uses her SP 1:1 percentage wise to other Clerics and even a few FvS. She's got 14 turns- for questing, I use half of those for Divine Might, but in a raid, they're used for Radiant Servant bursts. Those bursts hit for about the same as an amped up Mass Cure Mod.

She's not "mad leet deeps", but she crits for about 150 and has the HP to stand in there with the DPS and allow her aura to tick while contributing (She'll top 510 after her next Shroud). Melee Clerics aren't all bad! I swear!

WELL... i thought to myself, how hard can it be really? i mean... its only healing right??

So i decided tonight, Only got out of the run 10 mins ago, to borrow the use of my Fiance's lvl 16 Cleric Kaiyou, and run a shroud. As it was my first time healing in a shroud i was not used to standing back in phase 1 and just throwing the odd heal here and there... it was nice. I cud smoke and relax like i love doing when soloing.

...BUT, when we got to phase 2, the sh*t hit the fan.... It was crazy!! And to top it off my computer thought it would be great timing to start acting stupid and i lagged like a mother....

I had to chase after people, heal him, heal her, put up BB, run after him, heal myself, Find where the hell my fiance puts her buff spells, then try to get in range to give resistances.... healing someone who just ran around the wall and having to run around to heal again coz it was an..."Invalid Target"...

Clerics really do have theyre work cut out for them all the time not just in the shroud, but shroud being something i do once daily i wanted to see what the experience was like for others.

Thank you Healers, now i know what you have to go through to keep us alive.
How much were the BB's hitting for? I know on my cleric (because hes terrible at offensive casting...and anything other than healing when it comes to raids....) throwing BB's is a waste, it may be the same for you as well, so if your numbers aren't stellar at least at level 16 don't bother with BB's, because you'll never know when things can take a turn for the worse and all that SP you spent on BB's would have come in handy + maybe saved a major or two

Just my advice, hope its useful for you/anyone else that reads this!

Thanks brotha, I've been playing clr since 2008 and have loved it ever since. There's a real sense of duty when you're in a quest and it keeps you always on your A game. I have a somewhat big ego when I play clr and cannot afford to wipe unless the its absolutely inevitable. At the moment I'm hosting many Amrath quest's on the server to help others and I find it to be the best training as a clr since most groups are just random pug's with the occasional fan of mine.

I think those quests out there can easily go wrong in a moment's notice if you get distracted and they seem to throw many dynamics into each quest. I believe every cleric should do there to best to lead the party whether up front or in the rear by allowing the group to know how he/she can best keep the party alive. I also think the clr should be entitled to the final say if they feel the party is about to do something stupid. Hence the wisdom.

Just my 2 cents and experience in playing this game. I don't know about other's but completing a hard quest/raid just seems to feel so much more rewarding as a clr than any other class I've played.

I miss the good ole days before Favored Souls and Radiant Aura, that's when you separated the men from the boys.
