    Default Interrupting auras?

I'm working on a cleric and I've got a question concerning skill points, which are a little tight due to my low int. I'll have quicken, making most of my spells immune to interruption. However, IIRC, quicken does not apply to activating the aura. Will I need ranks in concentration to prevent the activation of my aura from being interrupted, or does it count as an instant action?

Don't quote me on this, but as a cleric myself, I believe auras are instant spells. That or I've never failed a roll on them, which is less likely.

BYOH. Know it, abide by it, or don't mess with those who do.

I don't recall having an aura or burst fail. And I don't want to threadjack, but since you mentioned it in your OP -- I would question the whole "quicken means I don't need concentration" assumption. Running with quicken on all the time is a recipe for running out of mana a lot, and in any case, it doesn't work for scrolls.

I would strongly suggest an investment in concentration. It is expensive to always have on and it doesn't work on scrolls. I would take this before balance if you only have one skill point.

Usually you'd be right, but this is an ... odd build. In any case, I'm going to go ahead and invest in it. Thanks guys.

Quicken affects the Bursts, but does not appear to affect the Aura.

I've had Auras fail as a missed action (eg. climb onto something mid animation), but haven't noticed any Concentration checks being made when activating it in combat. I'm not 100% sure that it's exempt from Concentration checks, but this *seems* to be the case.

Instead of the Aura, Concentration is more useful for when you're casting without Quicken, and when you're casting from scrolls/wands. Jumping while casting/scrolling can also help...but that is not always an option. I *really* recommend that you do not neglect the Concentration skill on a character that you plan on casting with.

It seems to be the same as activating Unyielding Sovereignty, that is, you can't
be interrupted by melee attacks, but Trip and all of its cousins can disrupt it.
I seem to recall there was a list somewhere of the things that can interrupt UnSov.
That would be the one to check.

And I would have to agree - max Concentration above all else. Balance does you
no good as far as being interrupted - Trip is a STR check. Balance only helps you
    get back up.

Aura and Burst cannot get interrupted unless you become incapacitated, start climbing a ladder, climb up a super short ledge, or some other weird mistake (like falling into the water mid-cast).

I don't know if we're playing different games or what. I have next to no concentration and I get by just fine with Quicken on all the time, I cannot recall the last time I had to use a scroll mid-battle for anything. I'm at the point where my SP pots are piling up because I'm not using them at all (which can be taken as a very positive thing).

Even at 48+ Concentration, there's still a 5% fail rate. There is no such fail rate with Quicken. There's also slightly less micro managing errors if you keep Quicken on all the time (one example is turning off Quicken to buff in Shroud and you cast a Mass Heal forgetting to turn Quicken back on).

    Default Fvs

Or you could just roll up a FvS and never run out of SP... and keep on quicken, extend, empower heal, and maximize all the time
