So why your points are all good reasons not to group, why play a game designed for grouping when you could play another game where no grouping is required (Mario, COD, GTA etc etc etc)???
I enjoy soloing in MMO's, always have. Though I may not be in a group, I still enjoy chatting with guildies, or even in general chat, while I'm at it. MMO's also allow the option to interact with othet players for other reasons, trade, PvP, etc. Just because someone likes to be selfsufficient, doesn't indicate that they shouldn't be playing MMO games.

Being an MMO means you CAN play with other people, it does not mean you absolutely must.

    Default Solo - yah.

To the OP, I'm surprised links have not been provided to help with XP and favor mechanics...well, hopefully these might help:

Ron (the chargen project creator) has a solo project...read his criteria for this effort (external link):

    http://www.rjcyberware.com/DDO/DDOSolo.php

Read this page well. It will fill you in on how you can maximize your XP, giving you some idea of when you need to complete quests (in part due to XP vs. level penalties), and how difficult the effort will be with regards to your level matching up against the quest level.

    http://ddowiki.com/page/Experience_points

As mentioned, some quests require some pals to stand on stuff. Can't work around that sometimes. I have a wee lad, I work around his schedule, so I appreciate the need for soloing quests - not nice to bail in the middle of The Pit. Hope this helps.

    Seq.

If you are stuck somewhere with xp you can just do some casual quests for the first time bonus.
It's not the worst xp, but its definitely not the best either.
I do this often when soloing at-level content. Casual XP isn't really that bad, especially when you're not familiar with the quest in the first place. I'll usually repeat it immediately afterward on normal for another bonus to XP. I find that once I get to about level 10 or 12, even normal becomes a challenge and I often run only Casual at-level, then wait a bit before repeating. But I don't like using hirelings so it's only me. Although it's possible to run stuff at a higher level, the cost in clickies and pots becomes prohibitive, so I avoid it.

I've found most quests are soloable if you're willing to skip many of the optionals and just get to the end for the completion. To me, this is acceptable when doing it the first time on Casual and Normal. But on difficulties above this, I *want* to do those optionals for the maximum XP possible on a first run. When repeating, I don't mind missing the XP because I'm probably running it for loot in the first place.

Well because you do have the options....in this game you can run solo, run with just your friends, run with guildies, run with strangers......whatever....

Well....I have tried running quests in a group, and have yet to enjoy it. I like to take things slow, get all the loot I can find, do all the optionals I can find, explore every corner of the dungeon I can get into, kill all the bad guys I can find, etc. In a group, the folks who already know the dungeon run on ahead. If I stop to pick up a treasure bag dropped by a dead bad guy, the rest keep running and go kill the boss bad guy before I even get a chance to get a swing at it.

You just need the right guild. There are guilds who run just like that.

PUG's are usually get in, get out, get the loot and xp, repeat, unless otherwise stated in the LFM. Some guilds pride themselves on speed of completion, others are more into taking their time and playing just like you described.

Soloing is fine, and enjoyable, but don't miss out on the group experience either. The difference between grouping with a bunch of good guildies and running a PUG is like night and day.
