I don't think you guys got it...
It's all about money.
Wings look cool, wings make you look ubber.
Power gamers know better, since only a few TR's really are well geared, skilled and know what they are doing. However, power gamers represent 1% or so of the active DDO accounts.
The thing is, all those adventurers in the Harbor see those toons with wings, good looking equipment (armor kits, greensteel weapons, etc...) and what can they possibly dream of? They just want to look like that. My first TR was only meant to have wings & have "Hero" in my sig. And yes... I was proud of it.
Now, if all of a sudden, Turbine decides to add that option to show or not show wings, none of those new players will want to TR anymore.
And I bet you all know what that means... No more heart of woods bought in the store, no more adv. packs to get XP from it, no more XP pots,...
So you see, this discussion has no reason to be because whataver you do:
First : you won't get enough people to sign it (people like wings, as someone said earlier, only a few of your friends have agreed with this)
Second : Turbine will never agree with this
Third : That's a first step, and even if it succeeds, what do you want next? Make your eSoS look like a random greatsword? And with that comes the same issue...
I'm not against the idea of having that option, but I think this won't get you anywhere.

Turbine has already created several options for players to toggle on/off various options in the game and some of them were done without anyone even requesting them. There have also been others implemented with only a small number of "/signs".
So its not a matter of how many sign off on this idea and although it seems you have donned yourself with the power to speak for Turbine per your second point I doubt you really do.

Stull out there hoping this idea gets some play by Turbine.

I'm all for an option to turn off the display of other people's wings to the individual's client, but not in favor of the ability to turn off stuff for other people who might desire to see the wings. Just as I'm opposed to any request to be able to turn off the display of your hit points in the group menu for other people who want to see them.
There really is little to no reason to hide your wings from other people that I can think of that doesn't border on the shady line of behavior, but maybe I'm just not seeing something that the OP is. Perhaps if you gave a good reason why they SHOULD do it, I could get behind it. But "because I want to" doesn't cut it for me. So long as no credible reason is supplied, I'm against any player being able to turn off indicators for other players that they may be using to make game-play decisions.
Yes I have a TR toon, and I honestly don't care if someone sees my wings. I'm actually kinda disappointed I can't see them myself.

If people are associating bad experiences with TRs, turning off the wings so people think you're not is not the solution. The solution is for people to stop overgeneralizing. Why do you think Turbine would make this an option if they specifically put in the option to see everyone's health, when it's well known that a load of people discriminate based on hp without any regard given to skill/gear/what have you.
Now, the option to not see anyone's wings is a slightly different story, as then people who just can't seem to stop themselves will be able to make everyone look more similar. But it's still not solving the real problem.
You're not seriously seriously suggesting to avoid TRing just to avoid those two symbols? Are u also against option that lets you hide ur helmet? Cause by your logic if there weren't an option to hide it, your comment would probably be "hey if u want to see ur face don 't wear a helmet, problem solved!"
I don't mind the symbols around my character name but if someone doesn't like them over their head/don't want to be judged on first sight, they surely deserve right to remove them. It won't affect the gameplay at all, and it's probably the simplest thing to code.

I'd agree to this myself, even the ability to hide all of them(Personal settings)
I just dont like having them by my name myself :P

Wow... are you really under impression that people like to TR just so they could get two stupid symbols above their head (which btw can't even see by yourself)?
I didn't know what those stupid symbols were even after my first TR until someone asked me what are those above ur head so I checked, nor do I care.
And it's been a LONG time since iv been in a 6man party without a single person that's TR. It's usually 2-3 people with legend/hero build and the rest are champs/adventurers.
Sorry for typos but some of these comments are just ridiculous.

on the subject of TR'ing, I wouldn't mind seeing the number of TR's in the Player's Bio. Wings show for 2nd + lives,
legend shows for 3rd +, but no way to tell beyond that. Not that it really makes that big of an impact, i just always find myself curious when i see a Legend.
On the TR wings, its not a bad suggestion. On first thought, i thought there's really no reason to change such a small thing. The player doesn't even see his wings, true.
The awkward times are probably when you're the only TR in the group, and yes, theres some sense to wanting it toggle-able as being perceived as ultra-uber can be pressuring and such. More often probably in lower level quests.

Wow.
Just wow.
Some of the trains of logic against this suggestion hit level 17 fvs, got their wings, coupled them with jet boots, and then used them both to leave the atmosphere.
There is literally an argument back there saying that if you could turn off your TR symbols, DDO WOULD COLLAPSE.
Just...wow. Most entertaining thread all day.
Anyway: Yeah sure /signed. Some people don't like being attention grabbers. Why make them? And it comes down to adding a box in the options menu and removing a couple symbols in a name. Wouldn't surprise me if it took all of 10 minutes for a janitor at turbine to just sneak that into the code while the devs are at lunch.
Also wouldn't surprise me when it causes 5 more inexplicable and seemingly unrelated bugs, but hey, we gotta find those some time!
I'm not opposed to this idea but I'd rather the devs concentrate on other things. It's funny though, usually you see people asking for some way to show they've accomplished something instead of hiding it.
This I'll sign!
Just like you can turn off names, or anything else, have it limit to your screen.
Either you want to see them, or you don't. If you don't like looking at them, fair enough, have it so you do not see wings, other players might like the convenience to know if a player is a TR by a glance without needing to examine their bio.

(again; this thread comes up often enough that there really is a decent segment of the population who'd like this)
I have not read a single credible objection in this thread or any other either. It's an option. Yay for choice.

In Von 3 the breakables in the Troll Ambassador optional room are slow to get to and unnecessary for ransack.
Blind insta-kills floating eye balls.
Yep, The discription in your characters bio should be more than enough to provide said populace with details on your character.
I do not need to have over the top BLING posted about my characters name to describe me.
