Some groups are formed across multiple guilds, sometimes alts in other guilds, etc. so putting up an lfm is an easy way to get everyone back into the same group, whereas not everyone can see the same MoD.

It's a perspective thing. It's easier to say 'private' than "filling with guildies first" or "people from the last raid click this lfm to get back in for the next raid".

Honestly none of it really bothers me that much. What does bother me is people reporting everyone for breaking a rule. Even if its not hurting them, they going to report you because its against the rules. Its like they are given a little bit of power and they are going to flex their muscles.

I understand if someones harassing you, or griefing you. Report away. But spamming reports because someone has an lfm up that isnt kosher? Please, do you run to mommy when you lose a loot roll?

@OP, what I do is join their group, and say:

"How would you feel, if people posted LFM's in your auction house?"

    Then leave.

Honestly dont know why I feel the need to say this save my respect for Suzie and the fact that I do have a high enough rep to neg.

I know my opinion in this matter about the ship altar thing is different from many posters on this board and I know there is no way to prove what I am typing here is the truth since for some damned reason they will not allow neg rep to be shown by the person giving it.

I dont think the OP would ever say he is a "victim". This whole thing is childish, I believe in what I said. The neg rep comes from people who have way too thin skin, and abuse the rep system. I just magically got 2 neg rep hits for my post in this thread that wasnt inflammatory in the slightest. Why, because some people like to wave their epeen around. Does it really matter? No, I dont particularly care, nor does the persons that did it have much rep to wave, they did less damage then I got rep in my last positive rep, it just goes to show the touchiness. I just have to wonder do you and the other guild have some forum post to neg rep anyone who disagrees with your practices and supports threads that speak against them? Will I now be declined from raids I have regularly run with guild A and guild B ? Bit absurd indeed.

Here are my opinions in case you need to share them with your guild:

I believe in sharing altars/buffs on my ship, makes groups/raids easier whehter short term with the one you are running now, or in the future as people will be better prepared with better gear. We do not always have time to craft when running the shroud, these are amenities now available, why not use them. My guild and I worked hard getting our amenities also.

I do not believe in "private" lfms, unless it is to quickly reform a failed raid or to put two flagging groups together such as for EDQ. We all have guild chat, most of us have other sources such as teamspeak and vent, and there are private chat channels. That is what should be used to form up groups for quests or raids.

I do not believe in reporting those who do not share my opinion. We can agree to disagree, I won't get into a e-peen contest with you about it, and it does not turn my wagon wheels to report them.

I have continued to run with the three guilds we are talking about in this thread, as well as a zillion other guilds. Just because we disagree, it doesn't affect my game. This is not a life or death issue, its pixels in a game we play for entertainment.

My toons are listed in my sig, feel free to blacklist me, if my opinions offend you that much.

This is the best post. I highly support this.

Hmmm now do you see how ridiculous this whole thing is? Ive gotten so much it isnt even funny, just goes to show how many people need to take their ball and go home, the rest of us still want to play DDO.

And no I didnt neg ya...I actually have only neg'd twice in my forum history and it was for horrifically bad/incorrect info in one thread and a real tool/troll in another, dont even think they were sarlona threads.

I have lost all faith in the rep system.

I'd agree putting up a private lfm for /everything/ a person runs would be a bit silly. There are cases though where it just makes everyone's life easier. The one's you mentioned. Also, as others pointed out not everyone has all alts in the same guild. There may be cases where some people still are in quests and going to switch before joining.

The most common case I seen is when a guild has several things going on the same time. So you have them try form a raid group and two groups for different epic quests and end up with twenty (or more) people talking the same time. Putting up a quick lfm to make sure everyone ends up in the group they want just makes life easier. Granted, the latter happens more in larger guilds than in small and medium sized ones but it does happen.

I don't think it's about being butt hurt or really bothered by the occasional ship invite or trade request. I believe it's more about worry that it could escalate and instead of having two such requests up we some point end up with twenty requests for a ship invite to craft and thirty-four trade requests. There are games out there where this happened and the lfm panels are used for everything but grouping. So, while I myself never reported someone for it, I can understand where it is coming from.

Now, if the topic would be including two more tabs in the Social Panel, one additional tab for guild related requests (such as ship invites and guild recruitment) and another one for trades, I'd be all for it. Then no one would be stepping on anyone's toes and we (hopefully) could all live in harmony.

As for letting people on air ships: I couldn't care less; if a guild wants to allow public access to their ship, it's a nice thing to do. I have no problem with it. They prefer to have their ship a private hangout? It's their ship. They worked for it. They pay for it. They certainly are entitled to make this decision. It has nothing to do with elitist or being a self absorbed j.... There are people out there who like the idea of having a lot of folks hang at their living room. There are people who value their privacy. They aren't better or worse, just different.

There certainly seem to be a few select folks (and no, not trying to point fingers nor do I know who) that are very quick with neg reps, reporting (which likely is the reason posts keep vanishing) and/or name-calling. Pity. I think all of it is uncalled for. Have a +1. Hope it makes up for some of the hits you took.

Interesting thread. Rarely can I get through 3 pages of argument threads, but for some reason, this one held my interest.

I think the ship invite thing is not black and white. My guild has just hit 70, so we just got our new shiny. Personally, I wouldn't have a problem letting someone use the ship, especially if I were running with them in a group. Further, I would probably have no problem helping a stranger if I receive a tell from them while I was not grouped, running around the marketplace, but it would depend on the way in which I was asked.

The decision for me usually comes down to attitude. I'll gladly help someone who ASKS for help. Conversely, I'll ignore someone TELLING me to do them a favor. Whether it's inconvenient or not is usually irrelevant. Whether or not it hurts or costs me anything is not the point. The point is, I have something you want. I'm a nice guy, and like to help others when I can, but it annoys the hell out of me when someone tells me, "You need to give me this". Further, the argument of, "I need it" (when you don't), or "It doesn't hurt you" just seems childish to me and off point.

Not all people are nice and helpful. Some love to brag and say look at what I got, and no you can't use it. I actually saw a post recently which did exactly this (complete with screen-shot), granted, I think it was in jest. Many people are just plain d***s. But, no one likes being told how they should do a favor for someone.

You want someone to help you, ask nicely. You might be surprised with the results.
