was thinking about coming back after a long time away. Is the game anymore fun than it used to be? and is there a good guild to join if and when i come back? Since I would be coming back and restarting my characters again from scratch.
Thanks.

I tried the game back in 2007 and personally I thought it sucked.
In 2010, after it went free-to-play, I decided to give it a try again (I was bored of LOTRO at that point)... the difference is staggering.
Before I thought the game was bland, un-player friendly, and just generally blah. They made a LOT of good changes when they went FTP and it shows. They are also doing pretty good when it comes to releasing new content often.
Be forewarned though: You'll start as a FTP but you will end up paying money to buy more content because you will get addicted. That being said it is pretty cheap entertainment.![]()
I'm going to have to make the same argument I make to everyone who asks if DDO is worth playing. (or coming back too, in your case)
Roll up a free account and find out. If you think it sucks, you have lost nothing.I Played for three weeks (long enough for me to play Korthos and figure out the game a little) and then I plopped down some cash with glee.
The problem is never how to get new, innovative thoughts into your mind, but how to get old ones out. Every mind is a building filled with archaic furniture. Clean out a corner of your mind and creativity will instantly fill it.

Game play is pretty similar to how it has been that being said if you did not like it the first time around you probably won't like it the second time around.

I can remember what it was likie back in '06. It was glitchy, buggy, poorly laid out, and all around hard to figure out. It has changed alot since then to where if you haven't played since, lets say when they released the desert, you would be hard pressed to recognize many parts of town. Many of the Races and Classes have had an overhaul to improve them and fix some of their problems. There will be a large amount of new content that you have not played (sadly all in the 1-14 range but that is a different post). There has also been alot of polish added to the game since then.
We still have some lag issues at times, but nothing like it was in the old gianthold days. Some of the classes and races are still a wee bit unbalanced. Gear can hide many peoples lack of understanding of the game to this day. So you can see there are still plenty of issues to complain about, but all in all it is a much better product compared to what we had almost 5 years ago. It's almost as if they came up with a plan and actually used it.![]()

I am a returning player from when the game hit Gamestop day#1. I busted out the old credit card and thought I had found the game. No more inviting sloppy friends over to the house for a 10-12 hour PnP session (Pen and Paper) with every one ditching their clean up responsibility and having the wife biatch. However, the early days were fraught with TOO MUCH LAG! It has gotten much better (probably due to reverse-engineered alien technology), but I agree with the other writer, since it is now FREE TO PLAY, why not just try it and see for yourself?
I did and I believe it is worth it. I'm even considering what others have said and putting the ole credit card out there again to buy things I sorely miss from before. There are also a boatload of new "kits" to purchase and they have set up where you buy modules or adventure sequences and I miss those (like Tangleroot).
Scenery, guild extras, altar recipes, these have all been added or changed drastically and YOU WILL NEED TO READ THE FORUM PAGES to stay current! Also there is an abundance of abbreviations that people use here online like a second language that you will need to familiarize yourself with or you will be lost! Good luck with the guilds as I have chatted a few threads worth of BAD experiences (which you can read for yourself), but all-in-all they are definitely A MUST and worth researching and talking to higher level, more experienced characters about!
Good luck and let me know if I can help!?!
