    Default Why join a guild?

I get numerous invitations to join guilds, but have yet to see a list of the advantages of doing so. Can someone tell me?

I have also yet to see a list of descriptions of the various guilds. Such a list would be useful, since I certainly don't intend to join a a guild until I find out what they are all about.

your server forums has a list of guilds msot likely. if not, there is at least a forum where guilds on your server can advertise.

Commendatory is the primary benefit of being in a guild. Knowing who you are playing with offers a better DDO experience for most folks. there is also the Guild airship perks nowadays. Many buffs and benefits fromthe airships.

    Default pro's

There are several pro's to being a guild. Far more than any perceived con.

For one you really get to know the people you are with. Sure it is possible to do so without a guild but it is more feasible with a guild.

A guild is a team, and you will get to know each other's strengths and weaknesses.

In recent times guilds have gotten ships (guild house), so now there are hour long buffs that were not there before. You can also get invited to other's ships for the same.

Hand-me-down loot! Yeah guildies will be alot less likely to sell that uber magic-item and give it to you if you are their guildie.

Ideally a guild helps you fill parties with people you know quicker.

Get into a guild...there is nothing to lose.

Impaqt pretty much nailed it. The higher the guild level, the more buffs on the ship for you to use. They come in pretty handy. Also, I like to fill my groups with guild members first before opening it up to the rest of the server. Many of my guild members have multiple toons in the same guild. So while I may not be familiar with the character, I know the person behind the keyboard.

I would recommend you to not join a guild that is soliciting invites via blind invites. Those typpes of guilds typically try and grab players to farm guild renown and kick you if you're not working at the sweat shop.

A good guild is one where you take the time to vet your choices. I joined my guild mainly because I've not only heard of my guild before, but I ran quite a few quests with members of the guild at one point in time or another.

If I was you, go to the "My DDO" tab, and then select the guild tab for the server you're on. If you find a guild that suits your playing style, go ahead and pm the leader, or look them up in game. If you can, run a few quests with the guild to see how you mesh with them.

A guild is a fantastic thing overall. Things like ship buffs, camaraderie, and questing with people that you like is invaluable in DDO.

Good luck on your search - I hope you find a guild that you'll enjoy for a long time to come.

There might be some loss in joining a guild too...

For example if you join a crappy guild you won't get into raids as easily as you would if you had no guild tag. There are quite a few that most people avoid in Thelanis, for example.

A guild can also help you the other way around: get into a guild that people know what to expect from the members and they'll already trust you (at least partially) just because of your guild tag...

There are also "solo" guilds where members adventure separately but pool the renown that they gain while doing so.

I joined a solo guild because I spotted items that needed a minimum guild level but didn't want to be part of too regimented a structure. The idea of a cooperative, rather than a corporation, appealed to me.

As a result I'm very content. The guild has an airship, with buffs that are the chosen by the guild leader and I'm confident that my renown will be well-spent.

Assuming you join a good guild, and not one that randomly invites anyone they see, here is a list:
    Pros:
*Airship buffs(amount and quality depends on guild level)
*List of people you can be pretty sure you can have a good time questing with
*Immune to guild invite spam(and oh boy is there spam... rerolled my fvs the other day and in the 5 minutes it took to get him back in the guild I got three invites)
*Airship is basically a second teleporter that goes to more places(again, amount depends on guild level)
*Can have things like bank, mailbox, AH, tavern, altars all in one place
*People in your guild may be more likely to pass things down to you
*Can actually put things in item guild slots

    Cons:
*May have people asking you for invite to your ship if guild level is high enough(not condoning this, just warning)
    *uh... ice cream?

Best thing about guilds, IMO, is that they bring an element of stability to this game.

Most guilds have regular runs, and you get to play with people that you know. Guilds tend to pick guildies first when filling groups, so in a good guild you will spend less time waiting around for a group to fill or open up. Also, it's nice to have a group of people who will be able to hop onto alts or swap characters to help you get flagged for something or complete a favor run.

Also, most guilds are anxious to maintain a good reputation, so there is an element of self policing. A guild with a bad reputation can mean that people reject anyone from that guild for a group on sight, and a good reputation means that you might get picked over someone else simply because of your affiliation. The only times I have seen anyone booted from a guild, it has been because they have either ripped off a guild member by 'borrowing' an item or weapon and refusing to return it OR they have acted like a total idiot in a PUG and the guild boots them to maintain a good name.

NOTHING beats the satisfaction of booting someone from guild who you don't like. Only to reinvite them....just to boot them again.

    Reasons to join a guild:
    1) To wear guild lvl 1 items
    2) You have friends in the guild
    3) To abuse ship buffs (or crafting)
    4) To rob a guild chest
    5) To soil a guild rep

I'm sure there are more positive reasons to join a guild, but i honestly don't know of em.

On this note, it's worth mentioning that anyone can turn OFF guild invites by opening your options menu and looking under UI settings. Unclick the box that enables or disables guild invites. That way if you know you surely DON'T want to be in a guild with that character, you won't have to see those invite windows pop up every few minutes.

This game is more then just getting loot. It's about friendship. A guild allows you to form friendships that might other wise not happen. I love the peops in my guild. Some have become such good friends that we communicate outside the game. Just my 2 cents.

If you're looking for a guild, make sure there are some people in it that play at the same time you do. I was in several that seldom had anyone on when I played. Not much benefit then.

Near the top you should see "Leaderboards: Guilds", the Guilds is a click-able tab and on the next screen you can select your server and so on.

The only legitimate reason to be in a guild IMO is to group with them. There are a lot of other benefits listed in this thread, but a shared community that enjoys grouping together and prevents you having to wait forever on pugs is the main thing.

Find a guild you enjoy running with and you'll find a lot more enjoyment in your gaming.

not sure what a pug is, but i agree.

right now, i need to find a way to look at the list and get some info on each guild.

    i found: http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php...sted=1#post421

there seems to be a lot. but that post was in 2006 and the links seem dated as well. is there a more up to date list?

i was thinking of starting a new 32 point character, so i won't need one for a while.

    just found guilds at: http://forums.ddo.com/forumdisplay.php?f=173

    thanks
