When do I time these in combinations? I seem to get some from time to time, but mostly "miss" the oppurtunity. Thanks for any help.

simply put, you don't need to time it at all.
you charge up a finishing move by performing a specific sequence of special monk strikes. for example, if you do 3 fire strikes in a row, with no other strikes (regardless of the amount of time in between) you will charge up the fire:fire:fire finisher, which basically lets you do burning hands instead of your most likely significantly larger damage... (hint: don't use the fire:fire:fire finisher unless you're wanting to burn stuff for a quest objective or something. also useful if your strength is so gimped you can't break down doors, i'm guessing).
certain things interrupt the sequence however. specifically, pretty much anything that involves using an object (including picking up collectable bags, opening doors, climbing a ladder, hanging from a ledge, etc), as well as using a new elemental strike (so for example if you were to do a water strike after fire:fire:fire, you'd lose the finisher). it essentially only counts the last 3 strikes, so if you were to do another fire move after charging your fire:fire:fire finisher, you would still keep the finisher charged (unless of course you were to open a door or something).
so, learn what moves you care about (and again, fire:fire:fire is not one of those most likely), use those moves in sequence, and then your finisher will be charged and ready to go. until you run into a tiny ledge that is barely as tall as your foot and your monk decides to climb it for no reason while you scream in rage.
oh, and also... stunning fist does not disrupt your finishers, so don't be shy about spamming it. also, some finishers count as spells, and can't be used while in madstone rage (such as the aforementioned fire:fire:fire finisher, which you conveniently didn't really want to use anyways, but also the light:light:light finisher which you may actually have wanted to use if you're light path.)
Thanks for the info, what do I need to hit to charge the healing Ki? That is one I seem to miss at the moment.
i got it just a little while ago and was doing a earth/light/earth for a buff with nothing else going on and said i missed missed my opt so i think there might be some weird glitch bc it only happens 1 out of every 100 times i do a finisher or so and yes at that lvl fist of light x 3 is the only light move he will have. might be quicker and use less ki to just drink a pot at that lvl.
Don't forget also that anything you hit with light will also heal you for a time I believe every strike you connect afterward will give +1 or 2 HPs per successful hit. I just use the light and almost never need to use heal pots and when I do, I just pop off that healing finisher to get some extra HPs when needed.
with no healing amps and maybe monk improved I? ( not sure what lvl that comes in ) theres no way he can rely on just fists of light to heal him, yes when you pop a FOS you get some hp back but when your being hit for 30 and only getting 5-8 back its time to hit the pot or use a hire if your soloing. The cool down is to long in between for a 3x to be reliable and at lvl 3 every hp matters. just something to consider.
