Request: Guide to updating DDOWiki.com

This thread is a request to document a sort of "How To" guide for updating the DDO Wiki (ddowiki.com).

It would be nice to just give a step-by-step example of updating a page (preferably with screenshots).

If you wanna go all out, show updating a quest, updating an item, and updating another type of page (if the steps are in any way different. If not, then obviously just 1 example would suffice.)

Also, how to add a new page would be useful also.

This website will walk you through contributing to the Wikipedia, which essentially uses the same kind of technology as the DDO Wiki. Work through it and you should be able to do similar things with the DDO Wiki.

Editing a Wiki page is easier than editing HTML but here is a cheat sheet.

Unfortunately there is often a political angle to any wiki so don't be surprised if people revert all your changes, seemingly on a whim. Be careful to explain what you are trying to do and where your evidence is for the changes you are making.

Working on a wiki can be rewarding though, despite a few crazies.

I understand basic wiki editing, but the DDO Wiki is mega-confusing.

For example, go to the main page and click on "Update 8 named items"

Click "Edit" next to "Blockade Buster" and you see this:

OK, what? Where is the source code for what is listed there? How do I find it? How do I edit it?

edit: just figured it out. I have to manually go to:

In order to edit the "included" part.

I don't tend to do wikis these days but contributing to one can be a worthwhile endeavour.

One day when on party chat someone linked a weapon with an effect and someone pointed out the wiki was wrong on its DC.
I was surprised when a player said that took the screenshot and quickly edited the page at fault, including the picture.
Seeing that, other players picked up the habit and now they do the edits instead of waiting for someone to do it.
