It is actually a very good and financially sound idea from a business perspective if it could (a) be appropriately programmed and (b) be unlocked in-game like the drow or FvS.

It is a very bad idea from the point of us, the consumers, though.

Just to play devil's advocate and twist what the OP said a bit to make it not as outrageously 'no'

How about if new PREs came out 1 month early in the cash shop. For a nominal cost you could have it before everyone else got it for free.

It's actually not, for the same reason Barnes and Noble doesn't have a large adult book & video section. Sure they'd sell some porn, but they'd ultimately lose money because they'd lose a portion of their customers.

Well, it'd be pretty silly to pay for it (especially since they'd still need people to play it for free on the test server), but this wouldn't be outragous.

WORST IDEA EVER!! And i fully expect it to be implemented within the next update, marking are next the worst only slighty behind nerfdate 5.

Right now there are only two classes you have to pay to access - monk & FvS - neither of which is a must-have; plenty of solid builds using only the F2P classes. OP's suggestion sounds like it would apply to all classes, which means F2Pers would have to pony up TPs to ungimp their builds to gain access to the "good" PrEs. There's such a thing as getting too carried away with microtransactions...

Not the "make people threaten to quit and then not actually quit" idea implemented previously. Nor is it the "make people quit as loudly as possible but then come slinking back in under the radar one month later" idea that we have seen in the past.

Now in SWG, when we all said we would quit if they removed half the original classes, we actually did, heh.

Have to agree, I love DDO but something like this would make me want to leave. I've been in games where their was the buy your way to power players and it destroyed everyone's fun.

Just no....want justification? They have plenty of things they could sell in the store; cosmetics and adventure packs being the biggest (maybe curatives and Hearts to)

A build and equipment should never be sold. A character should be as powerful as the time spent on them, not the size of a wallet. Selling a PrE is not a good idea at all, meeting the PrE's requirements and levelling a character to unlock it is a great idea.
