Default Rogue Hirelings ~ What a joke No PHAT LOOTS FOR YOU!

Last night I decided to buy a lvl14 rogue hireling. He can open locked doors, he can find traps, and disable them. He even does ok melee damage. But he refuses to have anything to do with a locked chest. At first I was like this is BS ... then I got to thinking about it and realized hireling rogues are bad business for Turbine.

Before rogues came out you could DDO store your way through any quest in the game. If you ran in to a locked door or chest you could spend 90 turbine points on a bell and open that sucker. If you ran into a trap you could zerg through it, then buy a res cake for 150 points and continue on your way. If you have played that way in the past you can buy an armor kit for 150-250 points and at least your broken/low durability armor looks cool from dying so many times.

Now you can buy a rogue hireling for 40 points ( only way to get one is buy it with TP, Imagine that!) and if you want to unlock a chest you still gotta spend 90 points on a bell.

Turbine knows what they are doing, and they aren't going to give up the profits from selling bells in the DDO store. If you even think for a minute that this Rogue Hireling strike against opening a locked chest wasn't put in the game intentionally you are sadly mistaken. I'm willing to bet it will be months before this is even addressed by a dev.

Just warning anyone who buys a rogue hireling. He wont be helping you get your PHAT LOOTS.

at least he made it possible to tear up the quest Seattle style and get some good XP!!

Totally agree. I actually spent some serious points on a Rogue hireling thinking that I could get the best of both worlds, essentially a bell of opening that attacks.

    Fail.

I would have no problem with this if they told us before we bought them that they wouldn't open chests. If I had known this I wouldn't have bought them because disabling traps isn't needed for my 14th level Monk. As it stands now, I have about 10 level 14 Rogue Gold Seal contracts that are totally useless for my Monk.

Before anyone rips me for spending that much, understand how I play. I am 42 yrs old and have precious little time to play. I simply don't play often enough to feel comfortable joining a group or have the time to join raids. I am exclusively a soloing character and I am fortunate to be at a point in my life to be able to afford a good supply of Turbine points and VIP status. However, that doesn't mean that I enjoy wasting those points because Turbine chose not to disclose critical information concerning the purchase.

I love DDO and will continue to be a VIP and play enthusiastically, but this was just wrong no matter how you look at it. In the future DDO needs to take a serious look at things like this because it wont take very many times until guys like me walk away.

They refuse to interact with any chest in the game. I tried a couple of different chests. The first I tried was the mindflayer rare chest in Gianthold because I was curious if he had a decent dc on his open lock skill. No matter what I tried he just would not respond to any action regarding that chest. Next I took him into Cry for Help to see if he could get the traps and open the chest in the locked room. He was able to disable all traps and open the locked door, but once again he refused to have anything to do with the chest. Tried the underwater chest in the room with all of the Jarliths also.

It's a no go when it comes to asking a hireling rogue to open a locked chest. They just stand there and do nothing. For the record the icon for open lock on the hireling hotbar says that they can open locked doors and chests. I almost filed a bug report and asked for my turbine points back, but then I had everything in my OP go through my head and figured it was futile.

I just TR'ed and during my zerging up through about level 16 I used rogue hirelings non-stop. I do recall them not being able to open a chest or two but I'm almost certain they opened some chests on the way up. Maybe not though I was zerging so fast I can't remember for sure.

In any event, it would be nice if they could open chests but hey it's just trash loot. I'm more concerned with the traps xp bonus (and not dying in traps) and they are absolutely fantastic for getting that. I got ingenious bonus in **** near everything using one of those turds.

I will add that Bards and FvS also started as TP only and were moved to in game the next update.

I have to agree with you there, He was awesome at opening locked doors and getting traps. There is no disputing that at all. The xp bonus for ID is great. I used him for 40 minutes in repeated runs of Offering of Blood to open the locked doors and that worked great. And if he could open chests I would spend my monthly allotment of Turbine points from being VIP totally on gold seal Hireling rogues.

They won't interact with the Coin Lords chest in Eyes of stone. Had this problem on myself, and then a friend mentioned they couldn't get their hireling to open it this weekend (so I hopped on a different character and opened it for them).

Fortunately I don't need plat in game or IRL because I noticed I've spent about 2800pts since I TR'ed.

    1. Lots and lots of rogues for the XP bonuses
    2. +2 super tome
    3. 1 or 2 rez cakes (ok like 26,743 rez cakes)
    4. Several cleric hirelings when I either A. got to a dungeon and realized I forgot 1 or B. had the idiot die in a trap so I would dismiss him and summon a new one
    5. Various pots when I forgot them

Lol, what a waste except for the rogues and tomes.

I have found that none of the hirelings will interact with a chest.
I was in an adventure which I knew the chest was trapped.
I sent in my hireling, and he would not open it for me, I tried it on every other chest and again, he would not interact with any of them at all.
