Default Does Scarab of Spell Absorption protect against beholders?

My first foray into Ghosts of Perdition ended in a humiliating party wipe. Would a Scarab of Spell Absorption keep Cholthuzz from level-draining me -- even for a short time?

Yes. But its a waste to use a scarab here IMO.

Upgrade the silver flame necklace 3 times in the cursed crypt, that will absorb up to 10 charges of neg spells.

Then what is a cost-effective use of the scarab, in your opinion?

    I don't have Necro 2 or 3 packs.

None. Its too fragile to use its Spell Resistance reliably.

In PnP, puny little spells like Inflict Light Wounds wouldn't drain a charge. In DDO they do. Even a party member summoning an undead arcane will clip a charge off.

Eye of the Beholder is an alternative to the Silver Flame necklace, but it's quite expensive and of limited use. You'll only meet 3 Doomspheres in the game, if I remember correctly.

Beholder Optic Nerves is a good swap-in item for normal Beholders, but I was TOLD that it doesn't work on Cholthuzz. I haven't tested it so I don't know.

The Silver Flame necklace is the best one to use.

Also note that a Radiant Servant cleric can use their RS burst while in an antimagic aura, and the RS burst will get rid of a few negative levels each use.

You can upgrade it once in necro1, then 2x at the abbot altar then

Given the quest I am having problem with, your suggestion requires some kind of time warp...

Well, as per your post it seems you tried GoP only once, failed, and didn't dare to go back yet. You should not give up that easily.

If nothing else, you can run it on a casual. You can also bring couple of healers that Heal the bh as they fall, you ll have him down before your feet touch the ground.

Actually I've found the best tactics for this fight to be.

    1. feather fall, always, never take it off
    2. cast strongest of your summons (takes aggro)
    3. on the way down, as soon as cholthulzz is visible start spamming disintegrate (not sure which other wizard spells work...), cures and heal

also make sure the divine caster has greater restoration (scrolls probably)

even on elite we didn't even touch the ice when cholthulzz died.

silver flame trinket helps a lot but it's not necessary, neg levels can be removed with greater restoration while falling to the next level.
