Epic slot and Greater Pot IX?

I've had a thought perhaps a good way to implement an update to Potency would be to add Greater Potency IX on a yellow augment slot? I , and I'm sure many other players, have wanted an update to Potency which we havent seen since Mod 4 (Gianthold) but there have been many new damaging spells above lvl 6. I don't consider thing unbalanced because of the sheer quantity of clickies and items that boost specific damaging types, would be just a way to implement it with an amount of permanance that the clickies lack. All the while including the grind that is such a large part of this game.




Just a thought. Please offer up your responses, but I feel my idea is pretty cut and dry and theres nothing more I could add towards defending it, so I wont be responding to anyones remarks on the subject hopefully this will reduce trolling and promote healthy debate.

I believe the idea is great, but I differ from your opinion of unbalance (not trolling). I believe it would unbalance the economy and players perspective of the previous choices they had. IX maybe not, possibly VIII? IX would cause clerics to have an unstoppable amount of healing done and possibly allow them to solo heal a quest if they wanted to.

Not tough to solo heal. Someone solos Base1, WF and a Caster on Base2, Healer on Base3. Then Velah fight is a breeeze to solo heal.

A FvS won't even run low on mana if the base they were healing was smooth and Velah goes down fast.


Plus, some of the rarest, most prized epic items are prized just because they have some boost to level 9 healing spells (Epic Chainmail Coif, Epic Dragon's Eye).


OTOH, I'd be completely fine with a 50% boost to a single element other than Devotion (say Combusion). Sorcs could use that.

Or, you know, just make it combustion 9. Meteor Swarm is the only damaging 9th level spell right? Or just have it boost that one spell? Meteor-Swarmification-9

I don't think Potency 9 is all that useful and I like the fact that on 8 you get clickies and on 7 you get statics. I could see a better 8 static though, if it were an epic option. Maybe not a slotable augment, but rather an item.
