    Question Armor Kits? Why?

You put the effort into making a system to get a custom look of armor, but the system is terrible IMHO. Why wouldn't you just make an 'appearance' tab, where you can put any armor/helmet/cloak(pretty plz) of your choice to get it's appearance, and continue to sell exclusive looks in the store?

Honest question here, the armor kit system has too many design flaws to be, well, good.

The reason is very symple, the potential for profit with the current system is just sooo much greater then any other sytem that could be implemented (and make no mistakes, they could do any of the other sytems that have been discussed on these forums for the past 4 years).

They will milk this particular system for every penny they can get from it, then in a year or two IF the profits dwindle to nothing AND there is still a constant demand for a different sytem, then we may see a different system added to the game.

So... umm... put a thingy in the store, for the exact same price, that lets you make ONE armor into a cosmetic item.

    Win.

So why not change it from "skins" to "dyes". We can dye our hair. So why not dye our armor. Some of the color combinations out there are horrible at best.

Sell us, for TP of course, Primary and Secondary dyes to change the colors of our armor. Charge like 250TP for Primary and 125TP for secondary. I am willing to bet that more people would buy THOSE than they are the skins.

They could also sell us the stock armor skins for 100Tp in plain white/white and let us then spend even more TP for the colors of our choosing.

And you can't tell me they can't implement this. I think this is closer to what the populace wants when it comes to armor customization.

They could even setup "suits" in the changing rooms with each skin for each armor type. Have them all in Stormreach Red/Gold (Red Primary, Gold Secondary) so you can see which area will be affected by which dye.

Not that hard and it would be closer to what alot of people want IMO from reading all the threads out there on the subject.

I wouldn't mind paying the points so much if I were able to remove and reuse the armor kit on different armor. If I was able to do that I would probably buy kits for my lower lvl toons that will be changing armor a few more times. As it is I can only see buying kits for toons that are capped or close and have the armor they are going to be keeping like DT armor or an Epic.

I would love to be able to customize armor with all the randomized pieces that Turbine uses to make armors, but if they at least make the kits removable/reusable that would make a huge difference. They would sell more of them that way. If they do add the full customization I can't see it being cheap. I would think it would cost comparative to account banks or true hearts of wood or even more.

I think they should look at this from a bigger view of attracting new customers. If Turbine were to add full customization and make it part of the free game, many new players would be not only impressed but easily caught up in it and would end up investing much more time in the game. They could then sell special pieces and armor kits in the store, like faction specific items and stuff like the kits currently out. If anyone has played City of Heroes/Villains I'm thinking of something similiar to how they sell all the cool looking stuff in packs for 10 bucks. The RP community is what mainly keeps CoH going due to the customization.

DDO also attracts a large RP crowd due to its name and a free customization tool would go very far towards attracting more and keeping the ones we have, and more importanly getting them to pay money. This is not limited to the RP crowd by any means. A lot of players would make use of this feature and I could see a lot of VIP's blowing a bunch of saved up TP on it.

Adding a free customization tool for armor and then making faction specific and special cooler looking pieces cost TP would make way more cash for Turbine than the current armor kit system. It adds a tool that most people will run to go use, get hooked on it, find specific pieces that they want soooo bad and then have to spend TP anyways. Heck faction armor sets/pieces could go for 500 tp easy and many people would pay it.

    Ok long winded post done.

Thats a solid suggestion, tho the prices are maybe a bit high. Still, +1 for good ideas.

Price is still the biggest issue. IMO they would make much more money with cheaper suits / greater volume. I know for myself, I bought one at the current price. If they were ~30-50 TP on the other hand, I could easily see buying 1 per toon (so 450-750 TP spent instead of just the single purchase at the more expensive price). IMO Turbine would see greater profits by reducing costs on the cosmetics.

The best (and most profitable) system they could have come up with would be two stages. First, be able to but and overlay skin (1 time use) of any random loot armor and/or from a selection like they have now. Second, add dyes (minimum of a two stage pattern depending on the armor design)

This would cover all the bases so that people could chose what they want, and Turbine would still fill their pockets. Just one method or the other will just get people whining, and makes less revenue. Not to mention have you looked at the DQ armor? No amount of dye would make those leg warmers look good

They could have instead sold a 100-200 pt "catalyst" needed to slot a new appearance, plus as much Masterwork cosmetic armor as they wanted for TP which people could also slot. They missed an opportunity.

I agree with this poster. I just love cosmetics and I don't mind buying and using points (actually, I buy a LOT), but I would never buy cosmetics at this price. The basic idea with cosmetics is -- just as the poster suggests -- to be able to change it often, which means lower prices and greater volume. Hope they come to their senses and lower the prices (hair dye, too, is too expensive; hair styles are about right)

So yeah, since the first bunny hat and all the way through cosmetic shields you could totally see cosmetic armor coming, yet when they used the word 'system' we kept hoping there would be something, well, more elaborate.
