How Epic Can Paladins Be?

I have been level 20 for a while now and have recently started doing Epic quests, and although things have gone well, I have started wondering how to make a Paladin ready for Epics.

So far, I've mostly done Big Top and I tend to hit Malicia well as she's evil, but I don't know how well I'd do against non-evil enemies.

I'm guessing that it all depends on weapon as my strength and charisma are both ok, I have greater THF, improved crit: slashing and power attack, etc... so what is the best weapon/gear for epic quests?

What have you done to make your Paladin totally epic?

SoS works extremely well for pure paladins since you can set it up to bypass a lot of DR.

I think Chimera's Fang (epic version) is also very nice for the right build (human for extra feat, THF line, intim) since you can basically S&B it (so AC and intim) while still swinging away and doing quite a bit of damage (lightning strike).

Otherwise grab a greataxe Min II or Lit II. If you have a CC caster with you in epic, use Dreamspitter with a hardness ritual on it (or the other newer weapon that drains levels).

I'm just finishing off my first GS item and my second will definitely be a weapon. You state that I should go for a Greataxe, but as an elf, I have feats that give me bonuses when using falchions... therefore, would I be better off crafting a GS falchion?

The SoS is my ultimate aim, but I need to get it first

Greataxe has a x3 crit. Since most mobs are held in epic, the extra multiplier does WAY more damage then a x2 weapon.

If you have Stunning Blow, consider finding a good Stunning weapon. Stun works great in Epic.
If you don't have stunning blow, or a high DC a triple Earth GS Greataxe is a good substitute.

*should you obtain it*, the Epic Xuum (Sands) is a Falchion with a x3 Crit Mod. In theory, with Elven enhancement lines involved, it could complete with Min II/Lit II Greataxes. Also depends on mob's alignment and elemental immunities, of course.

Interesting... I have a Xuum, so should I consider upgrading it to Epic or hope for a Sword of the Shadow first and upgrade that instead?

Both are difficult to upgrade. 90+ EV6s with no SoS Shard, and maybe 40 Epic DQs with no Xuum Shard. In the case of Xuum, I've not seen the Seal or Shard even drop.

Yup. I have yet to see a seal or shard for either of those drop as well.

The 2 best epic paladin builds that ive seen have used either eSOS or epic chaosblades (need UMD).

In the end, if you have 2x earthgrab pick you'll do fine (if twf).

And if you're a THF? I've been looking at GS Greataxes following advice and I've added shocking burst, shock burst and good burst... sounds almost too good to be true!
