Ranger 18 Barb 2 or Ranger 12 Barb 8?

Thats the question. I'm a 32 pt build Human with maxed starting strength. I got wis to 10 and dex to 12 at start then dumped all the rest on con. I bought a +1 tome so i could follow the tempest line. Im' getting tempest 2 at lvl 12 ranger and have 2 barb lvls (for rage and uncanny dodge). I use two bastard swords at the same time and have toughness (1).

I like the ranger buffs but im not sure if i can gain that much from going ranger all the way to tempest 3 (since I already use cure serious wands and such). On the other hand I'm not sure what the barb levels would bring me.

Shoot with your advice if you please. Thank you in advance for the info.

Eh without knowing too much 12 rgr 7 barb/1 rog or 7 rog/1 barb will prob net u the best dps. 7 barb option will need cleave to get Frenzied bezerker which is a strong splash for u. If u need more info u need to post specifics and try set them out clearly.

Oversized 2 weapon fighting
Bastard Sword

Initial Stats (IIRC):

18 str
12 dex
16 con
10 wis
8 int
8 cha.

I took a +1 tome of dex to get the tempest line. My main focus is damage but I like that I'm very self sufficient as a ranger (although no soloer due to low ac and no trap skills), so I'm spilt between going ranger 18 or taking barb to 8. I know that I will get DR 3 with barb 8, which stacks with adamantine armor but thats about all i know.

why bastard swords? when you can get khopeshes for the use of that feat instead which are way way better weapons, imho you might as well use longswords over bastard swords for 2wf cause 1d10 19-20 *2 over 1d8 19-20 *2 or a scimitar is even better 1d6 18-20 *2 is not really worth a feat imho, if your going to burn a feat to use a weapon why not use a khopesh? 1d8 19-20 *3 trumps the bastard sword.


Also you can dump wisdom to 8 and use those 2 build points elsewhere and still cast all the ranger spells with a +6 wisdom item. hmm was it so you could get a +1 wisdom item so you could cast level 1 spells at level 4, rams might is nice.

Yes bastard swords are flavour related. I might reconsider but I like wielding two of the largest 1h weaps in the game at the same time. Also good bastard swords are cheaper at the auctioneer.

But the main question remains unanswered: what benifits would i get from taking another 6 barb levels over another 6 ranger levels. At 14 im going to get power attack and be 12 ranger/2 barb. Someone mentioned frenzied attack but you need cleave for that and I already feel i hit everything in reach as it is. With lvl 4 ranger spells I get FoM but that is about it. I would also go up to tempest 3 so I'm a bit unsure.

I'd go 12 rgr 7 barb 1 rog.

The rog is not for trapping it's for d6+3 sneak damage and full ranks in umd. U gain little from the second rog lvl so go 7 barb levels for dps and hitpoints.

You will want to pick up these feats;

Cleave(u won't use this feat it's purely a prereq)
Impr crit slashing
Power attack

I'd drop oversize to fit one of these in. Eventually u can switch bastard sword for khopesh if u feel like it.

U will get more dps and hitpoints from this split than 18/2.
