Lvl 13 Ftr: Use SOS or TWF Khopesh?

Hope I got it in the correct forum section this time.

I'm a lvl 13 Ftr. Went along the TWF line, wielding khopeshes. Recently pulled an SOS and have been using it. Not sure if it's my imagination but it seems to take out mobs faster. I just wanna hear the experts out there about this.

More info: For khopeshes, crit on 17-20. For SOS crit 15-20. I suspect that against crit-able mobs, SOS is better and against non-crit, duak khopeshes are better.

advice is much appreciated. also, any advantage if i try to re-spec to THF to max the use of the SOS? thanks in advance

Either way you happen to go here, just keep the SoS. Once you can epic it, it becomes the single most devastating weapon in the game. 5d6+10 damage, 18-20 threat range (15-20 with keen/ic), although it's a two hander so requires a different build to take full advantage of.

The THF feats only effect glancing blow stuff, which in general is nowhere near as important as the offhand rate chance offered by the TWF feats. The specific case of the SoS, which has no magical effects for you to take advantage of on glancing blows, makes it even less important to overall power to have the THF feats.

As to which is better, it depends an awful lot on what kind of khopeshes you have, what your strength bonus is, what your damage bonus is, and so on.

TWF GS Khops are definitely more DPS (I had to bank my SOS when Shroud was released). Mid-level banishing, vorpal, disruption etc works well and again TWF is needed.

Those GS Khops will serve you well even into Epics.

You could make an argument for skipping crafting with a long term goal of upgrading your SOS (or crafting a GS two hand weapon). Just bear in mind it could be a long old grind to get a eSOS, and your DPS will be sub-optimal until you do.

Oh and if you ever TR you can use those GS Khops again at lvl 12!

If your damage is high enough that you are one or two shotting mobs with an SoS crit, it will be the best weapon. "DPS" calculations go out the window in 1-2 second fights.

I'm not sure that's the best advice I've heard. Not sure I recall one shotting mobs even in the Harbour.

Mobs in this game actually have *a lot* of HP, so DPS calculations do give us an indication.

... eventually. Pre-level 15 or so I think the number of HP is pretty low. I generally use Carnifex up until I get gTWF, even if I don't have the THF feats. If you have an SoS early and you don't anything better, it may easily be your best weapon until you craft Greensteel Khopeshes, even if you don't respec.

Greensteel Khopeshes are probably the best in the game until you build an epic SoS, but I wouldn't plan on it, since probably 80% of your server is trying to build that weapon and it may take you a long time.

Unless you have the ingredients banked from another character, of course, but in that case I doubt you would be asking us this question.

I have been alternating between khopeshes (holy burst, pure good for both) and the SOS. It does seem that, for now, the khopeshes allow me to do more dps (again, it may be my imagination) because it's faster (crit around 120 to 140) as compared to SOS (slower but crit at 150-170).
