Here's my idea for a quad build. Although I would think that a Barb/Bard/Ftr would work better

That made me laugh. Really. Why would it always be sub-par? DPS? Well, compared to other pure DPS builds that might be true. There are a number of ways to play a pure ranged toon, many of which would not necessarily be to the detriment of the group....
Thelanis - Lightbearer - Cleric 20, Sareeshi - Ranger 20 (TR from AA to AA, yea, that's right), Roggiegal - 16/2/2 Rogue, Pally, Fighter, Pyranas - TR Sorceres 19, Pallyguy - Pally 19, Littlebigman - 20/2 (dwarf) Ranger/Fighter (tempest), Locksmythe - 11 Rogue and others...

    Elf
    8 Fighter / 6 Bard / 6 Barbarian
    Kensai I / Warchanter I / Frenzied Berserker I / Arcane Archer I

    Stats (32 pt):

    Str: 18 +5 lvl +3 tome +6 item = 32 +2 rage spell = 34 +6 barb rage = 40 +2 frenzied = 42
    Dex: 18 +2 tome +6 item +2 enh = 28
    Con: 12 +2 tome +6 item = 20 +2 rage spell = 22 +6 barb rage = 28
    Int: 8 +2 tome = 10
    Wis: 8 +2 tome = 10
    Cha: 8 +2 tome +6 item = 16

    Feats (In no order)

    1: Point Blank Shot
    3: Wpn Focus - Ranged
    6: Rapid Shot
    9: Bow Strength
    12: Manyshot
    15: Imp. Crit - Ranged
    18: THF (or Precise Shot)

    F1: Wpn Focus - Slashing
    F2: Wpn Spec - Slashing
    F4: Power Attack
    F6: Cleave
F8: Imp Crit - Slashing (or Imp Precise Shot)

Feats work out, pretty sure the enhancements will too. I just don't feel like doing them at the moment. Use falchions in close combat and long bows at ranged. Could also move the Wpn Spec - Slashing over to Wpn Spec - Ranged and go Kensai with bows instead of falchions if you really want to specialize in the Arcane Archer part of the build since that will be the only PrE to get "maxed" out.

I reckon go 11 cleric/ 9monk with full heal/ negative energy amps for crit touch of death! (does that work?)

Should be able to get a nice AC going and have plenty of self-healing too.

    8 bard / 6 fighter / 6 barb would be better imo

While it would give you a short self-haste you'd have to choose two feats to give up. 1 for the loss of fighter level 8, and one to swap out for extend spell. Without extend your haste won't outlast your rages, even with I'm not sure if it will outlast the rage.

Even if op doesnt do this, I just might just have to try this someday as its sounds like such cool and fun idea

Man, I can't beleive I didn't think of this, I am at least going to have to plan out what a 4 prestige class build would look like.
Add me to the ranks of those who are going to be starting one of those I've got a elven fighter/bard arcane archer, why I felt the need for full kensei and didn't think this much more entertaining alternative, I may never know.

Hmmm... how to take this in a different direction than the ones already mentioned. Rogue/monk/bard? Doesn't get much benefit from the arcane archer and stats would be stretched pretty thin. Favored soul would be handy, but I don't have it or plan on getting it any time soon. Hmmm...

This may take some thought. Anyway, plus 1 rep to elg582 for the suggestion and to SamualTheFree for prompting it!

Bard/monk are alignment incompatible, and fvs archers are short of feats (and don't get PrE ).

Try the bear shaman build: 12 cleric/6barbarian/2xx or 14cleric/6 barbarian....
It's subpar dps and subpar healing, but can be viable and fun

My suggestion is an Elven Barbarian.

Show those young upstart races that elves can be reckless also.

There was a request once to build the old-style pnp bladesinger and I think I really caught the spirit of the build well. It would most certainly be a sub-par build but at the same time it's carefully crafted to work as well as it can within the framework of the bladesinger archetype.

Here's the build and my detailed comments on the build as well as the full thread.

    Wink

    I think I like the sounds of the Kensai I / Warchanter I / Frenzied Berserker I / Arcane Archer I.
Now I just have to decide which Pre I want first

I had one of these - subpar definitely is a good description. It's not a bad build by any means, but it was lacking the feeling of synergy that I look for in builds.

If you do this, I highly recommend 12 Wiz/8 Monk - give up the ToD and improved evasion for the unarmed damage and self-healing from lich form. This is better synergy for a non-WF build.

Touch of Death is not affected by any boosts for negative energy, although it is rendedered worthless by immunities to negative energy.

Monk attacks are not affected by spell damage enhancements, while finishers are. Touch of Death is an attack, not a finisher - although it can feel like one due to the cost and cool down.

I guess it depends on what you mean by "nice". If you mean you can easily get an AC so that monsters who can't really hurt you in the first place only hit you with grazing hits, then sure. However, to get an AC that provides significant protection from monsters who you actually need protection from will require a great deal of grinding.

Not something that a "fun build" should have an expectation for.

Another quad class: AA/ Acrobat I/ Kensai I/ WCI or VirtI. Max trap/UMD/Perform and some nice staff/songs/range abilities. Hm, think I'm gonna roll this.

You could also build a full melee arcane that works around the elven arcane fluidity and tensers. I'm thinking starting 18 str, 14-16 con, and 12-14 charisma/int. Level ups in str. As full caster, you get full use of many spells(scorching ray, WoF, polar ray, fogs, buffs, necro debuffs, summons, etc...) without the need of buffing ur casting stat past 19 end game . Wizard would be for extra feats (PrE make this AP heavy), and sorc for access to a larger sp pool. With either masters touch/tensers/or dilettante feat, you have access to martial weapons. Toughest would be looking for gear w/ lowered/lower ASF and AC penalties and also boosting ur HPs. Lot of versatility/variability here and would have the full functionality of a caster in most content.
-Thelanis toons- Alektronic (wolf), Bakeneko (monk), Ghyldra (druid), Hermeros (crafter), Lecker (wf wiz),
Panaceus (elemental barb), Quallus (SDK), Taigong (acrobat), Vamprix (warlock), Vercigetorix (bard)

Here's a go at the Arcane Archer/Thief-Acrobat/Kensai/Warchanter Build. I started to lose track of enhancements so there are a few extra tacked on at L20.

Note that the build is very tight for feats (especially since there are no Ranger Bonus Feats) and enhancements; despite that, I think I did a decent job - managed to get Manyshot (with +16 BAB for maximum shots) and the complete THF feat chain. However, there is no IC: Ranged and had to use Ranger dilettante for bow strength.

Please excuse the double post - here is another Quad Prestige build, this time using Arcane Archer/Kensei/Ninja Spy/Hunter of the Dead. Going Fighter 8/Monk 6 means 15 feats total, and this time I can use Rogue dilettante for the extra sneak attack. However, skills are much weaker. The build assumes that by L20 you can find or buy a +2 CHA tome.

OP should check out the request a build - get a build thread, there are some great off-beat builds in there: http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=117232&.

Personal favourite is the Hammer and Tongs build: http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php...60#post1309260. Dwarf TWF with hammer for stunning and pick for autocrits.

GreatCrossbow Kensai. For funzies you could even go elf, with a dash of bard or wiz, and take up whatever parts of AA actually work with crossbows (I heard force imbue works? I'm not 100% certain). Alternately, just go pure for the fighter capstone.

^ Apologies if this is TOO subpar (But hey, you won't be fighting people over getting the "Good" greatcrossbows.)

There are plenty of otehr underutilized weapons to play with, as well. Any and all crossbows, shortbows, light hammers (Or even warhammers), kukris (Which, i know, people still love, but i never see someone sepcialize in them), daggers, greatclub, any kind of throwing weapon (My pure dwarf kensai actually gets decent speed and damage on his throwing axes, what with quickdraw and the fighter capstone. Won't be the prettiest build ever, but with good weapons it might work out! Ranged vorpal strikes anyone ?)
