Are you using the on-board button/glide-pad mouse or an external mouse? Just for clerity.

My old laptop had drivers from the MFG (Alienware). Have you checked those?
The problem is never how to get new, innovative thoughts into your mind, but how to get old ones out. Every mind is a building filled with archaic furniture. Clean out a corner of your mind and creativity will instantly fill it.

I'm not sure what it is, but for testing pourposes I'd suggest trying an external mouse. This would help show(at least I hope) that it's DDO, the laptop, or the on-board mouse in particular.

Just to confirm, you updated the trackpad drivers from the manufacturers website and they are using the latest version, correct?

If so, I would advise inspecting the options for the mouse in case one of the settings for the device is causing focus to be lost (I assume if you alt+tab to windows the trackpad works again?)

An external USB mouse should be viable as a workaround and prove if it is game-related.

    packard bell EN TM80

TouchPad version 7.105.2002.1309 (from the packard bell site)

and after downloading and installing that told it to update again via windows drivers updates and it worked
