    Default Solo Drow Wizard

    Hello,

Right now my highest level char, is a 4 drow wiz. I like soloing and want to go AM vs PM from what I have read. Is this going to be a BIG what are some tips and tricks? I look forward to hearing back from you guys. Also what is the average time to get from 1-20? I am asuming its 5-8 days of RT play

PrE: You can only pick one - Archmage or Pale Master.

Archmage will make certain spells more powerful if you choose to go all out on that, or at least provide a major boost to your available SP.

Pale Master = negative energy and necromancy focused, neg energy is very useful also to self heal, which would be more or less necessary on a drow.

Another way to cover the self-healing, is to take the skill called Use Magic Device. This will allow you to use wands and scrolls from the divine school to heal yourself. However, it will require a maximum skillpt and gear investment and you might also want to consider putting in a starting Charisma of 12 or more, or you won't reach high enough to use the better scrolls you'd need to heal at high levels. Therefore, for a Drow, if you want to be self sufficient, Pale Master is probably the best way to go.

In terms of building your character: invest everything in having high hit points and SP, so maximize points on Intel and Constitution. Take the Concentration skill to highest possible every level, too.

After that, its probably most fun trying everything out yourself, there is no 'best' way of playing a Wizzie, just many different good ones.

If you want to be self sufficient for a lor less plat then PM is the way to go , and for soloing youll need self sufficiency , although often a hireling cleric will be useful for running by yourself .

In my limited understanding, the soloable wiz needs a 1. reliable source of self-healing 2. a survivability boost (immunities or saves). So either:

    1. Warforged Archmage / no PrE
    2. Pale master with Lich form
    3. Archmage with 2 rogue splash (UMD Heal scrolls + Insightful reflexes and Evasion)

I think you are underestimating how long it will take to level your first toon to 20 by quite a bit lol

A remark on your desire to solo, as you said this is your highest toon:

Don't expect to be able to solo every quest during your first run to level 20.
Most people who solo quests have either a really good understanding of this game and its mechanics,
or run a well geared toon that is reincarnated at least once. Lacking both the experience and the gear, don't expect too much from soloing at/after level 7-8 or so.

Apart from that, for a new player the safest way to figure out how everything works is in groups.

I'd figure at LEAST a month as you apparently don't know the majority of the quests in the game. Of course this will be determined by play time also.

Actually, soloing as an arcane caster is easier from lever 7, with dungeon scaling if you are careful (dont aggro half of dungeon at once) pots or cleric hireling should be enough to survive, and wall of fire+displacement+jump like madman is king for a very long time. When you get lich form at level 12, it's only getting easier.

Thats true that soloing is much easier with game knowledge and gear, but if you are not doing elites all the way and you focus on normal difficulty, it's not so hard.

Remember about getting all collectables in every quest you are, then check which ones sale good in AH, sell them there (undercut other people if you want) and turn rest of them to collectors - it will give you nice boost in both plat and pots/wands/scrolls, this will make your life easier
