It only slows you down a tiny bit each tier, until Level 20, when it's quite Feather Fall like. What it really basically does is cap the amount of fall damage you can take. My current build has stopped Monk levels at 12, and he takes -9 damage from any fall--well, or less if it's a short fall. Also, you can't toggle it off mid-fall (well, you can, but it won't change your rate of decent).

    EDIT: Errm...Impaqt posted first...I swear...

    Default Is Slow Fall Broken?

Or more specifically the ability to turn it off?

I think I see less damage from falls when I have it on, but my speed of descent doesnt change whether I toggle it on or off. Rather annoying in GoP, CC, and Jumping off the ship in Syber Atol.

I think you just can't toggle it off while you are falling, if you toggle it off then jump it you will fall normally iirc. T

oddly, my monk has no ranks in tumble, but yet, even with it off, i see no damage from even the highest of falls

Can only toggle it while standing.

Thats probably my issue. I generally tend to forget about it until I'm saying "Why am I falling so freakin slow?"

Default I've had luck with this...

    1. Have slow fall turned on
    2. Jump off ship
    3. turn slow fall off
    4. put on ff item (not sure why i still had them on a hot bar at cap)
    5. take off ff item
    6. fall fast

We all know that slow fall is not feather fall. We do know that, don't we?

There are several differences between them ranging from the rate of descent to the "loft" when jumping. Damage is one of those differences.

I've never considered toggling it on and off in the middle of a fall. It is either on, or it is off -- and I seldom change the setting. That it does not toggle properly is one thing I didn't know.

The thing about slow fall is that it doesn't really provide a max anything. You can still(until level 20) reach max velocity if you get a long enough fall. What it does is it slows your acceleration, meaning you hit the ground going slower because you haven't sped up as much, not because you hit a max speed barrier.

For those of you who don't quite understand(it's not as simple of a concept as some of us like to believe) here is an example: Earth's gravitational pull is about 10 meters/second^2, which basically means when in free fall your speed towards the ground is going up by 10 meters/second for every second you are falling(ignoring air resistance, which is negligible for our purposes). Eventually, you will reach what is called terminal velocity, meaning air resistance is balancing out the pull of gravity and you don't speed up anymore. Slow fall would be like having a little button you can press to make Earth's gravitational pull smaller, let's say 5 meters/second^2. If you walk off a cliff without having pressed the button, at the end of one second you will be going at 10m/s. If you hit the ground at this point, it will hurt. But if you press the button before walking off the cliff, you will only be going 5m/s by the time you hit the ground, and it will not hurt as much. This translates in DDO terms to taking half damage.

My personal input on this is I have a Monk 15 with a tumble of... 34? Something like that, and I never take falling damage. Even managed to drop down the Pit and took zero damage, although I may have glanced off a ledge on the way down somewhere.

    thats all fine and dandy.....
    Slow Fall:
Your focus allows you to bend nature around you to make gravity have less effect. This is an active feat, and can be turned off should you desire normal gravity to affect you.

the last part is what I'm having issues with. I never seem to be able to make gravity effect me normally....

Impaqt: There is something in the known issues list. In my experience, you need to be standing on something to toggle it on/off. Supposedly, the damage you take pre Perfect Slow Fall is tied in with your ranks of Tumble. If you have no ranks then it won't help you at all. If you have some ranks they become more effective somehow.

That would have something to do with your 20th level of monk.

Things worthy of Standing Stone going EXTREME PREJUDICE™ on.:
    • Epic and Legendary Mysterious ring upgrades, please.
    • Change the stack size of filigree in the shared bank to 50. The 5 stack makes the shared bank worthless for storing filigree in a human usable manner.
    • Fixing why I don't connect to the chat server for 5 minutes when I log into a game world.
    • Fixing the wonky Lightning Sphere and Tactical Det firing by converting them to use alchemist spell arcing.
    • Redoing the drop rates of tomes in generic and raid loot tables.

I haven't had a chance to test this on my 20 monk, but it sounds like it got broken. Gonna have to try it out for myself.

On an unrelated note; if this is a sign of things to come, I am left wondering if we will see epic threads like the pirate VS. ninja thread, where everyone was trying to out-ninja one another..

**For the uninitiated, this occurred when someone would post something, and someone else would end up quoting them and the quoters' time stamp would be earlier than the OP. This made for some truly epic ninjas'.
