Epic Mabar Wraps as BBs in Shroud?

I have been using +5 Holy Handwraps of Lesser Construct bane, but yesterday I heard someone using the Epic Mabar wraps while fighting portals. I brought it up, and was told that due to the dmg proc can do, it is a far superior BB for portals.

Is this true?

I also heard the Mabar wraps(someone else was using) proc dmg against Harry later(I could have just been hearing things, but im almost 100% sure). I didn't bring it up, but was curious are those better wraps to use in a normal Shroud run than my +3 GEOB wraps?

When the proc goes off itll do like 350-400 damage but i think its like 2% chance. Much like a lightning strike % chance. I dont think they out dps +5 GEOB handwraps if youre shintoa and have ToD HB ring or ToD shin set bonus but arent bad if you dont have that. remember +5s act as +9 weapons along with 3d6. Ive seen the numbers somewhere and if im remembering right +5 GEOB wraps won out.

I did some testing on the portal out in the reaver refuge between my epic wraps of light and my +3 greater construct bane wraps.

After ~15 portals if the wraps proc the radiance blast once they are about even, if it happens twice they pull ahead.

Epic mabar Wraps are +6 damage, Plus 1d6 Light + 1d10 on crits light damage + Proc.

They make for FIne Portal beaters..

Not sure what this has to do with Blade Barriers.....

I believe the term BB's is what the Euro folks acronym for 'Boss beaters', which is equivalent to the American version of 'DR breakers'. at least thats how I understand it. I don't know the math and I'm too lazy to compare the DPS between these wraps and dr-breaking wraps. I imagine they out-dps a pair of +5 metalline with holy burst on a tod ring though, not exactly positive.

That's what I thought, but what is confusing in this thread, is that the OP asks about "BB"s to use as portal beaters, not boss beaters or DR breakers. Portal DR can't be broken.

they make excellent portal beaters, as ranking them DPS-wise versus Arraetrikos, someone else will have to break those numbers down (as i am not familiar with monk DPS numbers at all)

I do mean boss beaters(one for portals and one for harry). I know a portal isn't a boss, but im new, so anything that I have a specific weapon for(like my greater gnoll bane wraps or greater elemental bane wraps i use on red names in the shroud) I call a boss beater

I know the wraps won't break harry's full DR, I just heard it proc during the fight and was curious. My main question was about the portals, comparing the epic mabar wraps to my +5 holy of LCB

Seems like everyone agrees they make better portal beaters, but the numbers just aren't in for Harry.

just on a side note, i wouldn't count ring dps towards handwrap dps for comparison between handwraps. you get them with the mabar festival handwraps just like you get them with with GEOB handwraps. only the difference between holy of GEOB vs mabar festival handwraps need be considered.

I use the mabar handwraps as boss beaters (and every other beaters since I find they work as well as anything else I have) but I also have to say that i have shintao III (rockan robin-ish build) and a TOD ring with holy burst put on it (it is the morgana's set but I was happy to get any wisdom ring for now). While I have tried to collect the best handwraps I can, my hand wrap selection is OK not great, so when these came out, it was my chance to build some decent wraps for my toon.

Before my TOD ring, I found they were not very effective against harry and his ike, so used a pair of holy burst of something wraps. Once I got the ring, they work better than what I have, and the proc is a nice bonus. The frequency of procs seems to vary - some days are better than others.

I will be the first to say that I haven't done any number crunching, just number observing as I beat on things. I also suffer from alt-itus so have too many toons and not enough time so none are getting all the uber gear possible - either way the Mabar wraps work for me - in epic (ok, I also use my +10 stunners here) or shroud or TOD. Other people can use whatever works best for them (or the best they have). I will continue working on getting better stuff but that takes time.
