Because of the vastness or those areas, especially first time of entering.

    Try lowering this setting:

    Options>Adv Graphics>Landscape draw distance

Memory leak. If you swap characters or play for a while, your chance to crash goes up. Check your ddo log, it will state why you crashed.

If Impaqt comes in this thread, he will suggest you check your sound card drivers and claim the game isn't to blame.

Post your dxdiag and, if you have a Nvidia card, try disabling the PhysX in the control panel. I haven't tried it yet, but someone claimed it solved their crashing issues.

I disagree with this as a cause - DDO has been shown to not release some resources after changing many characters but not to cause a crash to desktop, nor to grow over time to cause/play a factor in a CTD either. Such pagefile usage will cause a slowness client-side, similar to lag on lower spec machines is all.

Is the 'ddo log' referred to the DDOclient.txt file in the C:\Program Files\Turbine\DDO Unlimited folder?

I was not aware of this file and would be keen to see the contents following the crash if it does indeed yield useful troubleshooting information

    Unhappy

I have the same problem, seems to get worse with every update. It happens regularly on first zone into Necro or the desert on the first character I log in as. Also running ATI. I wish someone could fix it, it's become a running joke in my guild.

I do not experience the crash anymore since I upgraded to SSD and a decent Nvidia DX11 card so cannot test - if it happens regularly for you perhaps you could post your userpreferences and dxdiag and the ddoclient.txt so we could see if there's anything that could be tweaked?

Disagree if you like, but the log content seems clear to me, as do the symptoms and effect of multiple toon switching/extended play.

If you scroll back a few pages, you will find a thread by me -- might contain further information you'd like to see. As for where the log is, I am at work at the moment, I couldn't tell you. One of the stickies/dev posts should say.

There is some evidence to suggest that the mem leak caused by character switching or even the DAT file fragmentation caused by updates can cause this. Its likely those are not the only answers, but you could try the LOTRO DAT file defragementer. (as long as you understand that the LOTRO version could corrupt your files requiring you to reinstall. Most people dont have an issue with it)
The problem is never how to get new, innovative thoughts into your mind, but how to get old ones out. Every mind is a building filled with archaic furniture. Clean out a corner of your mind and creativity will instantly fill it.

    This post?:

Hardly conclusive as it's just your one report hence why I've asked for more.

The memory leak thread contains plenty of data but no reports of CTD by those performing proper memory usage analysis:

Did you perform the troubleshooting steps suggested by Legolas?

    Not officially recommended however.

But, stay tuned. You will be hearing about a DDO version of the tool very soon.
