Default What quests do you need UWA in?

I've been running a few noobs to like lvl 16 and 17, and I've not always been good at transferring items.

This question is obviously not a question for WF.

But I've noticed that some of these quests I always thought I needed UWA or water breathing in...I actually don't need it. Not to say it's not useful, but none I've so far encountered have I actually needed it to emerge on the other side.

Just curious to see whether there is a quest out there that you need it, or you will drown.

Twilight Forge. Crucible if you're an average swimmer (and it lets you gulp potions underwater to heal). Shadow Guard too, if more than one person is using the bubblemoss stuff. That's it iirc.

At low level Tempest Spine and the optional elemental room in Tangleroot can be a problem.

It's usually good just to have a UWA item at hand if you ever do need it.

One of the Twilight Forge puzzles is completely underwater, and you can't get air until it is finished. UWA is an absolute must (though it's a very rare raid to run).

One of the Shadow Crypt quests has very long swims, but there's "moss" that will "cast" waterbreathing on you.

Fathom the Depths also has a long swim, but there's plenty of places to surface for air. There's also the same moss you can, well, whatever it is you do with them.

Hiding in Plain sight also has a long swim, but there's a chance to get a Bottle of Air, a useful trinket that has UWA and no minimum level.

Tempests Spine also has an apprciably long swim.

There are others. There's no reason not to have an item with UWA in your inventory, incase you ever DO need it.

Twilight Forge: Only if you are doing the Red puzzle/Levers

Crucible: Only if you are doing "The Swim"

Bubble moss ca nbe used by multiple people.

Tempest spine optional should be able to be done by most folks w/o UWA. Its not that far of a swim and there are breath points you can pop up into.

Water breathing can suffice in almost every case. So, I'm not sure UWA is ever required anywhere.

I can recall several dungeons (Tempest Spine, Troglodytes Get, The underwater Vale quest (forget which one that is)... ) that such an item can be useful, but never required.

Most of these quests (aside from twilight forge) I've done without UWA or waterbreathing spell. Although I didn't think about more than one person using the moss in shadow guard. But I made it through that quest using just the moss, with ease.

The crucible I made it through the swim on my barb without it, but I did use pots. Hard to tell if the pots came more due from the spike damage, than uwa issues, but probably a lot of both.

Tempests spine, which I always considered it a must in, was rather easy to find the breathing areas.

Haven't done any tangleroot opts in years, so that one I don't know.

Pretty much any area with even a little underwater section if you're in heavy armor and don't want to swap, as well.

All the quests stated above... might need UWA.... that's going to depend on your Constitution and what you're wearing.

A Barbarian in armor can probably just dump any UWA item, as he can stay under water a long time before starting to drown, while the poor wizard will have a breath bar going down really fast, even naked.

All in all except for the Twillight Forge where the red tunnel requires that you have UWA, you can live with potions and spells... just in case...

I hold onto all UA items I find. And pass them down accordingly.

They have become quite rare all of a sudden. With higher min lvls too.

Oddly, it's actually based on Strength, as that's what Swim skill is based on, and DDO uses Swim for how long you can hold your breath.

Another place UWA is handy: Let Sleeping Dust Lie. You have to dive to enter, and the first part is in water. If you lag while loading or something, you can end up drowning without even being able to do anything.

Unless it was changed with update 8, this is not the case in Shadow Guard.

The only other place I ever absolutely felt I needed it was the one rare in Three Barrel Cove to get the gold piles out at sea.

It has a cooldown (30-60 seconds) before it can be used again by a second person. Basically, if you have 3 or more people that need to use it, it'll take forever to get through the **** thing.

1-2 people it's bearable, 3+ fleshies in the group and I'll mem waterbreathing. Also, merfolk's blessing halves the quest duration pretty much (more swim = more speed underwater).

If it's your first time in the octopus tunnel in ADQ1, you may need water breathing.

Legend of Two-Toed Tobias in Three Barrel Cove is another.
