    Default Dragon touched Armour

Hi me again, the slightly squishy Noob.

I'm looking at getting dragon touched armour, i currently wear a +5 Mithral breastplate of Spell resistance 13.
It has no AC penalty and a reasonable Armour bonus.

From what i can see in the Dragon touched amour i would not be able to get the breastplate because it would negate my evasion feat.
    Is this the case?.
If so what is the recomended Dragon touched armour for a Temp Ranger?

You would want leather armor since it is the light armor of the bunch. That or robes/outfit which have no upper limit to dex.

Depends on your build. Pure Ranger or any non-monk build you'll want leather - if you've splashed monk, you'll want vestments.

I currently have dragon-touched leather with +5 resistance (eldritch) // true seeing (tempest) // radiance guard (sovereign)

I will switch true seeing with salt guard as soon as I get tharnes goggles.

If you pick cloth, I'd pick robe over vestments. Robe looks a lot better then vestments.

Not overly concerend about the aesthetics more the protection.

Robe and vestments scare me protection wise

What leather armour and enhancments would be best for general protection

Are you a strength build or a dex build? If str go leathers. If you are a dex build you would probably get higher ac using cloth and then wearing +8 ac bracers.

As for what to put on them...+5 Resistance is good on eldrich. The other tiers you work around whatever other items you have. Nice thing is you can store up runes to swap out once you have a better piece of equipment elsewhere, like the example above of True Seeing getting swapped out later.

Yes, anything heavier than light armor (medium or heavy) negates evasion, and you don't want that.

The real differences between leather DT and cloth DT are these:

    1. If you have lower Dex than 28, leather gives you more Armor Class. At 28 Dex it's the same. At 30+ cloth gives you better AC - the more Dex you have, the better your AC, there's no limit with cloth. (i'm considering you are not wearing other armor bonus items here) But if you are not built for high AC, even if you get a little higher with leather, maybe cloth is still better considering no2:

    2. You can swap between cloth armor almost instantly, while you have to wait some secs when swapping between other kinds of armor.

As for enhancements, there are many nice ones, check this link here: http://ddowiki.com/page/Dragontouched_Armor

Pros and cons of DT Armor V's My current armor

I currently wear a +5 Mithral Breastplate of Spell resistance 13
    it has
    Armor bonus with Dex +14
    Armor bonus +10
    Max Dex bonus 5
    Spell Failure 15%
    Durability 117
    Hardness 23

    the Dragon Touched Leather armor
    Armor bonus +8
    Max Dex bonus 7
    Spell Failure 10%
    +5 Enhancement bonus.
    Durability 104
    Hardness 25

The Mithral looks to me to be slight better, am i missing something?
Why would i get DT Armor over what i currently wear?

For one, spell failure doesn't affect divine spells like the rangers cast.

But most importantly, check the link i provided above for what you can put on a DT armor

It appears your dex is 18, so total armor bonus from dragon touched will be 12 instead of 14. If you get your dex up a bit more the MBP caps at +5 and the DT caps at +7 so both will be 15 points of AC at that point.

What is your AC currently? It doesn't appear that it could be very high. If you aren't getting to a 60 AC self buffed then you may just want to wear cloth.

Also the SR 13 is absolutely worthless at this level. A SR check is level of caster + d20 roll to beat it. So any caster of level 12 or higher will never be affected by it. SR13 is ok for water works...

It boils down to how much dex you'll have in the end. A vestment have +6 armor which is quite different from any regular vestment. Since all armor (inluding light) caps dex it'll come a point in your build where you might have a bigger dex bonus than the cap and therefore 'waste' the rest of the potential bonus to AC.

Plus, if you, like my FvS use some UMD to cast low end caster scrolls, a armor gives you a negative towards certain skills. Vestment or robe doesn't.

You'll notice that for Vale and above you might not hit the needed AC anyways (40+ for vale wilderness, 50+ for quests and 60+ and above for Amrath) so it's academic whether you pick one armor over the other. That's why my FvS use vestment/robe instead of medium eventhough it can. There's no reason to handicap certain skills because I can only hit about 28 or so in AC and it's useless for anything over level 12 quests.

My Ranger use vestment to take advantage of specific runes (like insight +4 AC), dex and other items to reach a healthy 45+ AC and even 55+ given some other gear choices and that's good enough for me.

The vestments & robes are mechanically the best choice for most of the player base due to to-hit vs armor class scaling at level 16+.

Primary benefit is instant swapping between multiple robes/outfits for adapting to the current situation or for clickie use (like Robe of Shadow).

I'm getting a little lost in all the terminology, "hit V's AC Scaling" at level 16+???

I'm saying that the to-hit bonus of enemies typically becomes more than the AC of most characters starting around those levels (with the exception of people that actually build for AC).

For example, let's say an enemy has +40 to hit. That basically means that AC values of 10-41 are all functionally identical in that they have absolutely no effect on if you get hit or not. To have your armor class count at all, you need to be past that threshold. The problem being that achieving an AC that matters later on in the game requires a higher threshold than most characters can achieve. Once you get to the point that AC does not matter, you just go for whatever offers the best utility which is typically robes.

Who is this Dargon you speak of? And why is he touching your armor?

My first ranger build had the DT leather, then i TR'd him and built DT robes (had 1rogue/1monk/18ranger), a much better chioice.

With resist 5 on the first tier, a stat+6 (or exceptional stat+1) on the second tier, and enervation guard on the third tier (or destruction if you're going to get into epics can be handy) you see some rather large advantages to what you are using at the moment.

It solves some slotting problems you are going to face later on.

Much later on you may get some epic gear that supercedes those tiers, then you can simply get some runes from the reavers refuge quest series and replace them with what you will need then, there is no limit to the number of times you can change a rune tier.

It allows for redesign of your character to factor in some more dexterity later later on if you are going to GR in 32 pt or even TR to start life as a 34pt.

And as stated above, you can switch very fast between robes for different jobs (and there are some excellent clickies on robes that you are going to come across as you play more quests and raids).

If i had it to do all over again, i would have gone DT robes right from the get-go, but in the end it's your choice, and learning why things are done that way first hand can be 1/2 the fun sometimes.
