    Post Vent

    HEY SARLONA,

So after years of playing without it I'm looking to get onto Vent.

I'm looking for a quick run-through on installation.

And, if there are any popular servers whose users wouldn't mind adding a new member, I'd nod in appreciation if (only if you're comfortable) you'd be willing to PM me the info.

Most vent servers are guild specific.

What the last guy said. Most vents are for guilds primarily. I'm sure a handful of guilds out there have either a teamspeak or ventrilo available. I know we are one of them.

Please, please don't turn into one of those guilds that talks on Vent so much that they never hear in-game voice. It's fine for all-guild groups, but when there's 2-3 of you in a PUG raid, it can get pretty bad.

Thanks for the short clock time on the responses guys.

Ilindith: +1 I'll check em out prontissimo.

So I guess I'm expecting more than a few game aspect specific servers eg. Raiding, lowbie powerleveling, Epics. But it makes sense that people wouldn't look outside their guild for that. Why else be in the guild right >_<

My spidey senses tingle with Sarcasm.

I'll try and stay focused on all the strategic planning that goes on in those well organized Sarlona Shroud Pugs.

I saw the title and was thinking this was yet another Sarlona Shroud drama thread. Oh well! :P

Installing the ventrilo client is free for anyone, but owning rights to a vent server costs money. The higher capacity your server has the higher the monthly cost. So that's why vent servers are usually guild based - one nice guy shells extra cash and shares the service with his friends, or a group of friends share the cost somehow.

In my gaming experience finding people willing to pay for a good sized vent server and then open it up for use to the public is rare.

    Here's a good reason why...

EW Uses Vent (Sorta). I think we actually have two servers, one that's a remnant from a past guild that at least partially absorbed into us.

I agree with what's been said about making sure Guild Chat doesn't prevent you from hearing in-game voice. I DC/close Vent quite often if I'm running a quest/raid where someone is *not* in the server with me.

Its great for trying to coordinate DQs, though.

I have to say without vent/and teamspeak ( I run both at the same time) I would grow bored with ddo so quickly. What is this ingame chat you speak of? Honestly some in game is good...but there are several guilds that NEED a seperate channel as sometimes the ingame chat gets so annoying I have to shut it off....

Normalization can improve the Ventrilo experience, especially for headset users.
