Can a Dev solve this riddle?

I turn myself into a Greater Hero, I raise my Charisma to eighteen from zero,
I equip my Paladin TOD rings, and charge ahead with my Favoured Soul wings,
I try to dodge the Disnjuction spheres, but alas they have dispelled all of my gears,
My buffs got dispelled, I wish I was quelled! Who cast that Prayer? I swapped the spell...
It must have been the undead Priest... my God, I'd rather someone had cast Grease!

What am I?









Answer: A very frustrated player because my client freezes everytime my UMD skill changes.



OK, the riddle sucks, but I wanted to try one more time to draw some attention to this issue. All the actions described above change the UMD number, and the moment that happens, the client freezes. It may be for half a second, it may be for 3-4 seconds. It gets worse the longer DDO is running, and it's worse when it happens while you are moving.

A rather irritating example is when Fear is cast on you and you don't have fear immunity. Even if you save, your UMD changes due to being Shaken. Then 3-4 seconds later Shaken is removed, which changes UMD again. Now, imagine 2-3 monsters spamming Fear, and your client freezes for 1 second every 3 seconds.

Devs, please consider fixing this in the next available opportunity. Claiming that you do everything you can to reduce lag and then creating a form of lag yourselves that is constant and has nothing to do with network connection or number of players is rather disappointing.

Please find another way for item UMD check to work.

I get this as well, even on characters that don't have UMD. It happens any time something would modify a list panel, such as redoing enhancements, getting hit with +/- skill buffs, or being granted feats (like the old Master's Touch). Play time and swapping of characters keeps increasing the freeze time until it's unplayable.

I'm thinking this particular issue has to do with redrawing the skills panel, even if it's hidden. Next time you are getting this try un-selecting the passive skills in that window and see if it cuts the freeze time a bit.

No, that doesn't help. The problem is linked to the UMD skill. Equipping items that increase any other skill do not cause this. It's only items or spells that increase UMD, either directly or indirectly.

Exc Charisma items
UMD items (Golden Cartouche, Abbot Gloves, Seven Fingered Gloves)
Persuasion items
Comman items
LOTD
Prayer (both buff and debuff)
Greater Heroism
Heroism
Bard song
Eagle's Splendor
Dispel
Greater Dispel
Disjunction

It's a long list...

It's probably checking every item you've equipped for new UMD discrepancies when your UMD skill varies. No idea why it would take so long though.

Equipping items that increase any other skill do not cause this.

I will say that it is much more noticeable when updating CHA skills, but after a long session I can get a shorter freeze with a dex skills item or with a GH on a character without UMD.

We have had other posts about it that haven't been acknowledged.
Hopefully this one works.

Longer the client runs, the worse this gets.

I don't pay for good hardware and a high-speed connection to play DDO like its turn-based.
