    Default Epic Item Update Question

I've read in the release notes that some named items are going to get updated epic versions in the upcoming release.

My question is if, for an item whose epic version is going to change, I have a pre-update base item, scroll, seal, and shard and combine these in the altar of change after the update, will the resulting epic item have the new epic item properties or the old epic properties?

Just want to make sure it not like the ioun stone update where there was a pre-update version and a post-update version of the stones, each with different properties.

Also, if one has crafted the epic version of an item that is going to be updated, will the update apply to the previously crafted item or is it forward looking only?

I am sorry if this has been addressed before. I searched a bit and didn't find anything on the subhject.

    Thank you for the information.

The item is defined upon creation, so it doesn't matter when you collect the seals/scrolls.

For an item that exists now, the update will not be retroactive. In the past, you've been able to put the item in the stone of change with 3 epic tokens; this process updates the item to have the new stats.

    Cheers,
    Kernal

'Base stats' - the ones (like weapon base damage, crit multiplier, base AC, etc) can be changed retroactively (look at the eSOS nerf). Other modifiers (effects like Flaming, Anarchic, Composite Plating, etc) seem to not be able to be changed without the forging of a new item (which is what the Cleansing Ritual does).
    I don't have a zerging problem.

    I'm zerging. That's YOUR problem.

I was under the impression that nerfs were retroactive, but buffs were not. I believe some epic items have had their base stats (in particular crit ranges) modified recently that required cleansing, but I don't know off-hand.

The eSOS changes consisted of a major nerf and a minor buff, and they were fully retroactive. People didn't need to cleanse them to have their base damage upgraded from 4d6 to 5d6.

Uhm, since when you can put epic tokens in the Stone of Change? And if you meant the Epic device then this does not work for the old Ioun stones.
In other words if you want to have a Ioun stone that you can upgrade, then you have to find a new one that has the property 'Suppressed Power' ... except there is a third option I don't know about ...
    * We have collectable bags, mind you, even hireling folders, but can I have that 6-pack for my potions please?
    * Having already a past life on the dieng EU servers, I rerolled here and started from scratch as I like the game and the community, so lets see what awaits me here

Ioun stones are not Epic Items. The discussion is about Epic Items. They're talking about apples, you bring in oranges. No oranges.

I know that Ioun stones are not Epic Items, but the OP asked about those changes, as the Ioun stones have been changed without being able to be getting the new stats...

... and the answer from kernal42 did sound to me like it would have been possible for Ioun stones to get those new stats too, which I wanted to point out is not the case.

It theoritically is possible. it all depends on whether they create a recipe in the stone of change or not, which in the case of the ioun stones, they didn't.
