    Default Laptop Issue

Very weird issue I had start happening today.

The original charger on my laptop appeared to go bad a while ago. I replaced it with a universal charger (kind that comes with a few different tips) which I am using now.

So today, I noticed that the charger stopped working...or at least seemed to. The minute I closed DDO, the laptop was back on AC power. My roomate has another brand of universal charger. I experienced a slightly different scenario where the power would flip flop between batter and AC when I had DDO open.

Has anyone ever experienced anything like this?

    Never seen it before.

It almost, ALMOST, sounds like the adapter isn't putting out the needed amps or volts while the laptop is under a heavy load (i.e. gaming) so the machine is drawing from the only source of power that it can - the battery. And, because the power draw is less than what the charging circuit is looking for, it switches off the circuit.

I suppose it's also possible that charging circuit is bad as well.

Have you checked to see if there's a problem in any other game? Or any other heavy GPU / CPU load? DDO is known to stress systems harder than many other games for one reason or another.

You might also make sure that the tip that you've got the correct polarity out of the adapter (though you should have found that out fairly quickly) and that the tip is fitting snugly into the adapter port. My wife had a Dell that the power cord would become disconnected (though not acutally fall out) if the laptop was bumped just slightly. Made typing difficult.
It occurs to me that the dice are being rolled by the same computer that's trying to kill me. It knows all the moves - it's just toying with me.
